Psych Students

Here's a great link to explore about the SAT, grades, and college admissions. You get to view the grades and essay of five applicants to UC Berkeley and decide if you would grant them entry to college. Which applicant would you let in?

This website was pretty neat. I thought it was cool how they had the college admission applications and then you could see if the people got in or not. Cool website, Carlisle!

I really enjoyed reading and viewing the applications on that site. It actually suprised me some of the students that got accepted. It makes me realize that being a well-rounded student is important, not just having a good SAT score or good grades.

I thought the person that submitted the essay about his drivers license was kind of funny. It kind of shows that he probably crammed the night before the SAT or couldn't think of anything achievable in his life that was more important than his license. If I were to choose the #1 person it would be applicant 2 because she/he not only well rounded in school, but also outside of school. She/he did, I believe 19 extra curricular activities including volunteering work, while the other applicants did about 10. I would say that I am also impressed with the jobs she/he had. That person most impressed me.

Shawna,

I can tell you put some thought into your post. Very nice. Glad you got a lot out of the link.

Eric,

What's up with the third applicant? He got 50 points shy of a perfect score on the SAT's. What does it matter if he isn't "well rounded"? He knows what he likes to do.

Near perfect SAT scores aren't the only indicator of a good student. What about doing things like community service?

I really like the website. It was fun trying to guess if they would get into the college or not. It was interesting looking at the peoples' extracurricular activities and what they were. It's good to know that the colleges don't just look at your SAT score!

some of the results surprised me. I thought it would be much more competitive to be accepted in to a college like that. That was really interesting, thanks!

I thought the 2nd person would get in because she took really hard courses. Algebra 3&4 along with Spanish 5&6 in sophomore year is pretty impressive. =) Along with everything else she did... Geez, this makes me want to try even harder in highschool...
I also thought the 4th person would get in... His/her essay was about the driver's liscense. I thought the college would think of it like: whatever the kid puts his/her mind to, s/he'll achieve.

When colleges look at my Courses/Grade, they're going to know I don't do too well in English... and I'm more of a science-math person. .......
...hopefully I'll add some other courses in there so they'll think I'm more well-rounded =P

Have a great weekend =)

IT was cool to see what UC BErkeley was actually looking fo and what it would take to get in. It was also cool to see what they didn't accept. Very interesting Mr. Carlisle.

Tobby aka t-DaWg,

I think it depends on the college and the person's background. Some colleges only look at GPA and SAT/ACT scores, while others want a person who has served their community in some capacity.
