I found this video hilarious.
Hope we talk about it in class tomorrow.
3:36 PM
I said China was going to take over the world. No one believed me. What now?
3:42 PM
I intensely dislike this add. It's purpose is not to inform people of any policy, but instead to prey upon people's irrational fears of China. The add does not support itself in any way. The only factual statement it presents is that China is loaning us money.
4:07 PM
I may or may not have been at this conference.

Jimmy,
Your comment is now the front runner for comment of the month. Good one.
Kayla,
Do you agree with Alan's assessment of the ad? Does this hold any value at all?
4:32 PM
Honestly all I can say at the moment is that I am terrified. Honestly, if people are so desperate to get their point across that they have to start using scare tactics, I think our political system is going the wrong way. I'm so sick of all these negative commercials. Thank goodness they'll all be done after tonight!
4:34 PM
I liked this video. However that is a terrible truth. We need to stop spending money we don't have. Eventually China and other countries are going to demand we pay them back and we are going to end up in a worse situations.
It's kind of funny at the same time because the government is taking away the homes of people who can't afford it because they are in debt and the government in debt themselves. Other countries shouldn't let us take (steal) their money.
4:35 PM
Isabella,
Do you think this ad intentionally vilifies China?
Aran,
They'll be in 2012.
4:40 PM
I think it's really funny..and true. China will rule us.
5:02 PM
I think this ad is sad but true, but who says china has failed? sure we owe money and we are in debt to many other countries but we have not failed. people are still happy and most people who are living at the bottom of the poverty level have food from food stamps, cable and at least an apartment from the last statistics i've heard. so i personally do not think we have failed.
5:33 PM
In my humble opinion, all political advertisements are annoyingly slanderous. This one specifically targets moves made by the Obama administration.
Scare tactics are a terrible way to make yourself seem correct.
6:04 PM
i thought this vid was great/funny.
it definitely evokes emotion, especially for those who take pride in being american.
hope i dont get any dirty looks tommorow:)
7:12 PM
This ad is done very well in the sense that they made it look good, but it's still just another attack ad with no substance.
7:31 PM
I agree that we shouldn't turn our back on our principles, but I don't think that we are. That part didn't make sense to me.
7:49 PM
i agree with alan and the other people how talked about scare tactics...i did enjoy it however
9:38 PM
This ad is meant to stir up emotion in you. I don't necessarily believe what the ad is trying to get across. I am with Alan in that it has no value except that the U.S. is losing money.
9:42 PM
LOL at Kayla, Jimmy, and Anthony N. Yeah I don't think these scare tactics are necessary. I do, however, think this is a possibility in our future. But we're America, we won't let it happen :)
9:43 PM
Political commercials nowadays really go too far. I agree with Aran in that i'm glad i won't have to watch anymore commercials with candidates bashing each other or using such ridiculous tactics!
10:12 PM
I agree with Alan. I think this ad is very distasteful and paints China as some evil country out to get us.
Sure, China will most likely expand economically and may possibly become a superpower, but that probably won't happen for a long while, and it's not as if America will be a superpower forever and ever. But that doesn't mean we're going to become a slave country for China.
It also doesn't point out the other ways in which we are spending lots of money (like the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars). Its purpose is fear mongering and nothing more. It's almost hilarious how awful this ad is.
10:34 PM
I was going to write a strong point. However, my pops deleted the web page when I was almost done but then I got up to go to the bathroom. This is a true story. It was something about fear that I cannot remember. It's 11:02 and I am super tired. Argh.
11:02 PM
They need us!!!! Even in the state our economy is in we are still the biggest consumer of their exports, so how do they own US?!?! It's more like a joint custody!
p.s. I agree with Jonah
12:21 AM
I vote for an amendment to the Constitution that bans stupid ads like this one.
4:18 PM
Uh, you would need to repeal part of the First Amendment if you want to go that route Brian.
4:20 PM
I know, just trying to add a little humor, that's all...
4:25 PM
I hear ya.
4:29 PM
I strongly agree with both Alan and Jonah. I see this ad as just another attack on the government, by the government, just as most political ads are. I understand that China is currently a large power, but that doesn't mean that we will "fall to its feet" in debt.
I find the vast majority of politics disgusting, even though I do my best to keep up with them...
5:27 PM
Yes I think this ad vilifies china because they are buying our debts. They know we probably cannot pay them soon because we are in a recession. I think it is an unwise move on china's part. This ad leads me to think china bought our debts because they wanted to take advantage of us in the future.
6:56 PM
The Questia did not work for me. Sorry.
9:21 PM
Yes America does depend heavily on China for practically all of its products, but this commercial is unnecessary.
I also like how the date is 2050 when we're all supposed to be retired... (except carlisle)
11:19 PM
This ad is good stuff. I don't think America has "failed", not by far. Although we can take turns for the worst, i think that we still have bright future if Americans keep becoming aware of our present situation, however bad it is. These scare tactics are pretty funny, but hold little facts against us. AMURICA
4:38 PM
I got the link to the parody of this if anyone's interested:

5:22 PM
oh man that is funny. it's just like what Neff. said at the first senior class meeting about the Chinese and Indians ruling us. Funny stuff carlisle. btw where do you get these videos? especially the random ones?
