I don't really understand what he manifest destiny is. Is it that Mexicans and Native Americans should be taught about republican forms of government and converted to Protestantism?

Kayla,

It was a phrase coined by a newspaper writer in the 1840s. It is essentially the belief that America had a Manifest Destiny. That is, it was America's God given right to expand and control the continent to the Pacific Ocean.

The Native Americans and Mexicans were to be swept up by Manifest Destiny and be conquered as a result.

I hope this helps. Keep the questions coming!
