I watched rest of the Freedom Rider documentary, and it said MLK Jr. was encouraged to join the riders with the freedom ride. But MLK refused to get into the bus with them. Why did he refuse to ride with them? I think they would have gotten more attention if he had gone with them.

MLK Jr warned the freedom riders about the mobs waiting in Alabama, right? If I were him, I would have avoided joining the freedom riders because of the danger and violence it seemed to inspire. I do think they would have gotten more attention with him riding, but his presence wasn't needed; the freedom riders still generated a significant amount of attention.
