The majority of the war funding appears to have gone into the war in Iraq. Though, I am uncertain of the influence the 9/11 attack had on that particular war. How did it affect the reasoning behind going into the war? And to what extent did it affect it?

Christian,

The events of 9/11 definitely were responsible for the United States going to war against Iraq. The Bush administration made the case that Saddam Hussein posed a major threat to the West b/c he allegedly had WMDs.

Allegations of Iraq harboring WMDs is one thing, but how does that link back to 9/11? I am unsure how the attack from al-Qaeda links to the perceived threat of Saddam Hussein.

It's interesting how most of the money goes to funding war. I would think that the mist would go to veterans an those wounded.

I was amazed by the percentage of the US debt associated with 9/11. I was aware that our military spending is through the roof, but I didn't realize that so much of it was directly related to the attack on the twin towers.

I think it's amazing that the U.S. has spent $7 million dollars for every dollar spent for the planning and execution of the attacks, and how the effect on the country can continue at such a high level even after most of the physical damage has been repaired. The cube visuals are very helpful; it's interesting that the future war costs and care for veterans is the second highest cost.

I like how the funding on the Military in Iraq exceeds Toll and Physical Damage+ Economic Impact+ Homeland Security+ all other war funding expenses (excluding Afghanistan)...

sorry, I WAS in elementery school when 9/11 took place, and I am now a junior. and to think that about 50% of the worlds muilitary funding belongs to the U.S.

That's absolutely ridiculous. I cannot believe that it has costed us so much already!

Why can we not put these funds to better use though? Certainly war is no longer the practical approach. After all, the U.S did storm Afghanistan to kill Bin Laden. We should fund the families affected (And especially those with incredible medical bills), as well as the veterans of the war.
