WATCH. READ. THINK. COMMENT. PARTICIPATE.

History students, I hope you're having a good weekend. Today marks the 50th anniversary of a horrible event in America's history. Four young girls were killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL by a bomb. A bomb that was placed there by the Ku Klux Klan. Below you will find two videos about this incident.

The second video is the story of a woman who survived the bombing. I have also supplied a link for a powerful article about a brave man in Birmingham who condemned the bombing back in 1963 and paid the price for it.

"A mad, remorseful worried community asks, 'Who did it? Who threw that bomb? Was it a Negro or a white?' The answer should be, 'We all did it.'"

This is one of many statements that struck me the most from Charles Morgan. It's always sad that in order for changes to happen in the world there needs to be a martyrdom, especially when it's 4 innocent little girls that suffer the most. I have a lot of respect for Charles Morgan.

I can't even imagine how hard it would be for the members of the church. This should have been a place where they could feel safe, and that security was taken away from them. Not only that, but four young girls died.
For Charles Morgan to stand up for what he knew was right seems very rare for someone to do during this time. It makes me wonder if I would have the same courage to help the innocent.

I cannot even imagine how hard it would have been for Charles Morgan to stand up for what was right in a time like that. He was obviously a man who had a lot of courage. These kind of people are the ones who help make our world a better place.

They had a long life ahead of them. For that to be taken away, it's just not fair.
