Wow, I almost forgot about that commercial. It makes consumerism and greed seem like an traditional American value. And when you realize that it is in a lot of ways, it's super scary for the future. When you look around, you realize what a terrible, wasteful, selfish culture we live in. Even at home my family does little things like buy plastic water bottles and insist that turning them in at those bottle recycling machines is better than buying a reusable water bottle. My dad even once stupidly stated that wear and tear of a water bottle can release chemicals that are harmful to people. And my family seems to overall give an ounce of a crap about the environment: what about the people who don't care AT ALL? What are they like? Plus, our talk today about post apocalyptic scenarios makes me realize that we'll eventually run out of resources. I really don't want to live in a world full of people fighting over limited necessities. ("GIVE ME YOUR PUMP, YOUR OIL AND YOUR GASOLINE") I'm really glad companies are taking potshots at that outlook/commercial though, it definitely deserves it. And I'm really glad I have something to remind me to stop leaving lights on when I leave a room and things like that. Maybe I'll smuggle a water bottle into my house sometime this week.
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.
