Dr. Carlizzle

What exactly is Measure 49 proposing? To my understanding, the gov't is just limiting what people can do with their land. I don't really want to try to research it because everywhere you look is different stories about it by people who either want it or they don't.

Chris, you can find (fairly) neutral info here. It's the 2007 Oregon Voters' Pamphlet. It gives all the info about each measure on the ballot, what it does, what it's impacts are, and it also has an opinion section where there are various opinions for each measure.

Your parents should have one actually, Oregon's State Department passes one out to each house in Oregon every year.

Carlisle, why exactly did the Democratic-Republicans dislike the British? Was it because they didn't want to support the same government that had "imprisoned" them with unfair taxes/laws?

10:16 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's because Thomas Jefferson, who was essentially the leader of the Democrat-Republicans, was Pro-French because he was an ambassador in France and because they helped us in the Revolutionary War. So naturally, being pro-French, they would be anti-British.

Am I right, Mr. Carlisle?

Casey and Nicole,

Nicole you are partly correct. Casey, think about it. We just fought a war against the British over its government's tyrannical policies. Jefferson wrote the Dec.of Independence outlining all of the abuses of power perpetrated by the Brits. The D-Rs do not want another strong, central gov't abusing its power.

Haley,

I got you.

What/where exactly is the trans-Appalachian West?

10:18 AM

Blogger Mr. Carlisle said...

Good Charlotte,

I believe it is the area west of the Appalachian Mtns. Could be the Old Northwest (OH, IN, IL, WI, MI, etc.) or could be the large swath territory west of the MS River.

Oh I see how I wasn't fully correct. Ok. Thank you Sir Carlisle

Mr. Carlisle, I think we should move the test back to Thursday. Or even after the 4 day weekend would probably be best. After all, there's a LOT of material we covered.

As much as I'd love to do that, the eternal question becomes "What do we do during those extra days?"
