I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

Nizar, slackers, and hippies... Excellent, mostly...
I was just learning some stuff in my own interest instead of doing any of my homework, and was wondering about national banks... So the federal reserve bank was instituted during Woodrow Wilson's presidency right? I was wondering about how things worked with currency and stuff in times when there were no national banks.

Come on man!
Without national banks you had state banks issuing their own currencies. This made commerce btw the states very difficult. Without federal intervention in banking, banks would not have enough specie (coin) to back up the value of their money on hand.

Mr. Carlisle, you wrote "commerce btw the states" and I was very confused, because I interpreted it as "commerce by the way the states" (blame the computer jargon) which isn't the correct phrase.
I guess I'm a federalist - I have a loose interpretation of what Mr. Carlisle is saying.

Kinda, but why did they not have them sometimes? If they are in fact soo good, why have they been intermittent through out American history and not existed the entire way though? I am also under the impression that the Federal Reserve bank is a privately owned company...

It's a privately owned company that makes it's own policies and under almost no regulation by the U.S. gov... It is a company that loans all currency at interest to the government
Isn't this the crap America was trying to escape from when it declared independence?
If money is loaned to the government at interest, how is the government supposed to repay this when it's currency is the currency it's being loaned and is the currency it must pay back. I sense a circle of inescapable debt, and debt inslaves... TJ is the bomb...

The Fed IS NOT privately owned. It's a federal institution. The Fed chairman is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Fed also has an appointed board of advisers as well. The Fed sets our monetary policy. No loans from rich folks.
The Fed simply regulates the supply of $$$.

Hey gang I created a fourm for a huge online study group. It'll be for the remainder of the year and i'll change out the exam questions each time we get new one's. Eventually when i have more time I'll add other fu nthings but right now It's for emergancy get together for study. It'll only work if we get a lot of people for imput so tell everyone to join up, including you Car.!
