Hey Carlisle, so is Henry David Thoreau not very successful because he was thrown in jail because he was practicing civil disobedience and not many people read Walden?

Saraga,

Weird. I didn't get e-mails about your posting on the blog. Strange.

I think you could argue that Thoreau was somewhat successful in his attempts to break with tradition because of his belief in civil disobedience. As I stated in class, his beliefs impacted the civil rights movment.

Don't even say HDT was unsuccessful!

Walden and Civil Disobedience are very widely known books nowadays... Walden is one of the most prevalent non fictions books to come out of America.

Oh, and he might wouldn't have cared if he was a success anyways... Since he criticizes Americans' constant rush to succeed, to acquire superfluous wealth that does nothing to augment their happiness.

Jake,

I have received nothing.

Kyle,

HDT certainly wasn't all that. He didn't really live in the "woods" as he originally planned. He made plenty of trips to the big city for a hermit. Have you tried reading Walden? DENSE.

Got it Sarah. I'm experiencing some weirdness with the blog. Most of tonight's posts didn't go to my e-mail. Strange.

I'm part way through Civil Disobedience, and I also have Walden on deck, if it wasn't for English, I'd be basking in the intellectual glory of HDT.

PS, I wasn't using an exclamation against you, it was against Saraga.
