Poster 1
1. This one makes me fell like the world is betraying us, because we've been there for the world when the needed us (in war). But when we need them (in Iraq), they look the other way.
2. This poster is very conservative in my opinion.
3. I think it's good art, very descriptive.
Poster 2
1. This poster makes me very distrustful of the government.
2. I think the artist is liberal. He shows this by his trying to bring attention to all the civil liberties violations that the conservative government has committed.
3. I think that the art is very good, and very attention grabbing.
Poster 3
1. This one took me a while to figure out. It makes me feel that our kids are growing up around war. That it will taint their lives forever.
2. I think the artist is liberal in his views. He expresses this by his distaste in war and how in affects our children.
3. The art isn't as eye-catching as the others, and it takes a bit of thinking to interpret. But overall, decent art.
Poster 4
1. This one is interesting. It makes me feel like the citizens of America is just laying down and taking everything the government is doing.
2. I believe this is the libertarian poster. This one seems to have Liberty put to sleep by the government (the pills) while the government (in the background) tries to control everything (the oil on the lawn) stopping at no expense (the graves). Causing chaos (the fire). Showing that the author believes that it's time to "wake up" and restrict the government from all these dangerous practices.
3. I think that this is the most eye-catching of all the posters. Overall, easily the best.

Poster 1:
It seems as if the artist is trying to shed light on the fact that the anti-American sentiment is only strong when they don't need us to bail them out of whatever situation they may be in. Then they hate us when we come and occupy. That's what it feels like that artist is saying. It's an eye-catching poster.
Poster 2:
I thought initially that this was a liberal poster but then I saw the plug for Zeitgeist and I thought that maybe it's the Libertarian poster because I know that Zeitgeist has a huge Libertarian following. Libertarians also have a huge sense of individualism so I think this might be it. I like the poster and it's very descriptive and informative but the poster might take a while to read. Not like the other ones anyway, where I could read it in a matter of seconds.
Poster 3:
I really dig the simple, artistic design of this poster. I think the artist is trying to express the fact that war is now becoming a norm in the world today, which I definitely agree with. With wars raging in Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Iraq, Pakistan, etc., there are far too many in this world. The children add a more powerful touch to this poster, as they are (arguably) the ones who are affected the most by war. It's a good poster.
Poster 4:
This one is a liberal poster. The statue of Liberty, perhaps the most recognized symbol of America besides the flag, is clutching a Red Elephant, calmly ignoring terror around her. A metaphor for America (mainly Republicans) ignoring the REAL problems in the world and turning a blind eye. In the background, an oil tower is on fire. This obviously represents America's crack-like addiction to Saudi oil. The graveyard in front of the capitol building (and the burning oil towers) represents the American lives that have been ended in our international conquest to consume more and more foreign oil. It mostly targets the war. This artist believes that the war in Iraq is a war for oil. My favorite poster and the most disturbing of all.
2:37 PM
I forgot to be completely clear on all the artists' political ideology:
1st poster: Conservative
2nd poster: Libertarian
3rd poster: Liberal
4th poster: Liberal
2:39 PM
Casey and Nicole,
Really, really impressive responses about the posters.
3:14 PM
I like the first one a lot. The artist has conservative views and seems angry at the world because America is always willing to help but then other countries forget about our help and hate us.
The second one, like Casey said, makes me very distrustful of the government. The artist is trying to tell Americans things that we NEED to know but for some reason aren't being told. If viewed from an artistic perspective, I don't think it's very good. It is very wordy and the only real picture is of the man. It's an important message, but would be nice if there was more "art."
I don't really get the third one. I read what Casey and Nicole said, and that makes sense, but it just seems like there should be some deeper meaning. I dunno, I just don't like this one.
I like the message in the fourth one but it is hard to look at because there is so much going on. It's too much to take in at once. The artist is definitely liberal though, and they are trying to reveal the ignorance of Americans and encourage us to learn about what's going on.
My favorite piece of art is the first one. My favorite message is the second one.
3:32 PM
the second poster is very interesting to read........if those things are true, then we all should be concerned......the third poster is also interesting since it shows kids surrounded by bombs....it seems like they are implying the kids of this generation will be surrounded with war.............im not really into politics so i cant really say which is liberal or conservative

jk i dont think the link fit
4:22 PM
I could be very off here. But I think it's interesting that the girl in #3 is reaching her hand up and is holding her head up. She kind of looks distressed and hopeful at the same time. But I think the umbrella represents here in America we are being sheltered from what is really going on in the world, and how horrible the war is. Like children, we are ignorant to what is really happening.
4:52 PM
Wow, the responses from you guys have been incredibly thoughtful and very insightful. Great stuff.
Look closely at poster #4. Notice what's in the woman's hand. Any ideas on its symbolism?
Regarding poster #3, think about the innocence of childhood. Look at what that image is juxtaposed against.
5:56 PM
sorry don't have time for too much detail:
poster 1: conservative.
poster 2: obviously libertarian. they want less gov't interference. interesting they mentioned zeitgeist the movie. i saw part of it. pretty interesting.
poster 3: no idea... what's raining from the sky? Looks like grenades. If that's so they might be saying that the children of today will grow up knowing war and have it be a normal thing. and if that's the case it's probably liberal.
poster 4: i have a feeling it's liberal. The artist is trying to say America is ignorant over how we're destroying our country for oil?
6:25 PM
The woman is holding a red elephant, like it's a comfort item or treasured possession. Red and Elephant are both parts of the republican party. And those are probably sleeping pills because America is asleep and ignorant to the injustices that are all around us.
As for everything else, Nicole has it down.
6:35 PM
Poster I
1. I believe that it is liberal and is supportive of the U.S. Armed Forces.
2. The poster states in my opinion that we have always been their trying to help at the cost of American lives and mass amounts of money.
3. The B-2 bomber flag is symbolic of the U.S. military; meaning we are always where our military is present. It also symbolizes America’s military superiority to other countries.
4. The bombs state the things we have done to protect or help others in need.
5. “Until You Need Us” means that the United States is always looked at as a bully, mean, militaristic and unneeded. It is not until another country/s need our help that they are nice to us.
My personal opinion: I like this poster.
• Drop out of the U.N. (See how they like us now without money or support)
• Stop Charity (So the world can see what it is like without the United States)
In a nutshell say “screw you if you don’t want us fine; we don’t need you”
Poster II (The person who created this is Cynical and Liberal)
This poster:
A. Make me concerned.
B. This reminds me of Star Wars. Show the kinds of things that Chancellor Palpatine did in taking power and turning a democracy (the Republic) to an Imperialistic and militaristic empire (the Empire).
C. If the Governments of Mexico, Canada and the U.S. tried to become the North American Union there would be bloodshed; it wouldn’t happen.
D. This guy is VERY liberal (Libertarian)
E. Probably a conspiracy theorist who says the U.S. Gov’t blew up the World Trade Centers during 9/11/2001.
F. Good art in that the person got their message across.
Poster III
This poster is about war. In that children are being affected by it. It could also mean that the next generation is going to be surrounded by war and that it will shape their lives. It could also be an allegory to the child soldier. It could also be said that we have to fight a war to protect what is most precious to us.
The blue umbrella is symbolic and is the main feature of this poster as it is the only thing not to black and white. It represents a shield trying to stop the horrors of war reaching the children. “We are the thin blue line of protection between them [enemy] and our families.” (Anonymous, Pg. 121 ARNG Military journal)
Poster IV
1. That the oil and cooperate industries are taking power in Washington D.C.
2. The pills could represent the pharmaceutical industries or that America is asleep at the wheel.
3. The fire represents that liberty is dieing.
4. The graves represents that we are in a foolhardy war that politicians (old people) fight about while the battlefield fighting is done by young generations.
5. The “Red Elephant” what a great way to say Republicans and Bush Administration.
6. This poster reflects the conservative nature on the Bush Admin. And many Republicans.
7. Also Bush (the second one) is involved with big oil through family.
7:54 PM
I like the 1st and 3rd ones the best. Sometimes it's better when the art is
1) Simpler
2) Not trying to strike fear in the hearts and minds of Americans
(like #2)
Let's see, I don't really like the art work in #4. I guess I prefer a more simplistic poster that speaks louder than it's illustrations. I feel like the fourth one is trying to hard..
But I think it's funny how the statue of liberty is holding a Stuffed Elephant- obviously an illusion to the Republican Party (and how the artist views them- Oil-hungry, etc.)
Numbers 1 and 3 are soo true though (even though one's more "conservative" and the other more "liberal"- if you look at it that way..).
8:36 PM
Protip: Liberals are almost always anti-war and pro-diplomacy (UN is just a big diplomatic tool).
And in news only relating in subject to this, Obama is actually leading Clinton in the national polls 50% to 40%, with 10% of those polled unsure about whom they will vote for.
2 other polls asked which one will win the nomination, 70% said Obama.
When asked about the general election, 59% said Obama had the better shot at beating McCain, to Clinton's 28%.
When polled about a similar question, 66% of Republicans said McCain has a better shot at beating Clinton than Obama with 18%.
In the electability question, there was a tie between Clinton and McCain, both with 46%. When Obama was replaced with Clinton, that changed to 49% Obama, 42% McCain.
Many attribute this to the fact that McCain draws much of his support from the swing vote: the Independents. Independent support for McCain holds at 52% when facing off with Clinton, but drops sharply to 36% when Obama is the Democrat on the ballot.
8:39 PM
I'm very impressed. Maybe there is a hope and a future for this country. Keep thinking and listening to Mister C.
10:01 PM
HAHAHAHAHA to the guy in number two. No cruel or inhumane punishments are accept by the united states government. Guantanamo BAY?!?! lol the laws were also written in 1955 when people were paranoid about communism.... id cards a driver license. Track our every move sounds more like a nut job who has paranoia. hahahaha
10:20 PM
1. Conservative-People do seem to hate America until they need us. The bombs really put things into perspective.
2. Libertarian- Ive seen this movie and its scary. If what they say is true then America is screwed. Poster is like wake up call to us Americans.
3. Liberal- Shows how some believe America is. In their eyes, we're just murderers and selfish. The kids show an appeal to pity. If it was a guy in a turban would we feel the same way?
4. Liberal- Shows how America has fallen asleep at the wheel and let corruption get out of control. We're addicted to oil and we can't get enough war. Proves a good point though,
11:27 PM
1-The first poster makes me feel like we are being used and we are considered dispensable because we do fight in wars and help other countries out especially when it comes to major catastrophes like in Indonesia and even Mexico. On the other hand I can completely see why some countries hate us. We do tend to be ignorant and arrogant and our government does have major issues that need to be fixed but you can't tell me that the other countries' governments are perfect. Sometimes it makes me wonder if they hate us because we have come so far in so little time and it's like a slap in their face.
2-Conservative I think
3-Very good art because it speaks so loudly.
Poster 2-I'm not quite sure what to think of this poster. Is it really true all that it's saying? Because if it is, then I am getting scared. I'm starting to feel like a hamster in a cage. And what about the North American Union? If that's true then WTF are we worrying about illegal immigrants for? The government needs to back up off us. We're not their little pets.
2-Liberal!
3-Well I wouldn't say it's art but wow that's some scary insight.
Poster 3-I love this poster. The faces of the children are so nonchalant, almost happy that they are seeing the grenades (or whatever weapons)falling from the sky. And the girl reaching out to touch one=priceless. It tell me that people, while protected from the grenades and danger (symbolized through the umbrella)are accepting of all the wars and misery and treat it like it's a good thing. I bet they wouldn't look so happy if they didn't have that umbrella.
2-it could be liberal
3-I love the way the whole poster is black and white, yet the umbrella is colored in). It makes me think about what else it could signify.
Poster 4-She's so pretty! Anyways I feel like this poster is trying to say that Americans know what our government is doing yet we look away and try to avoid the truth (assumption made from the pill sin her hand). The people are giving the government too much liberty. We need to put our foot down and do something about it.
2-I believe this poster is liberal.
3-Very very good art. A nice representation to what is one interpretation of America and it's people.
7:58 PM
So Carlisle, how do you feel about the "North American Union"?
9:07 PM
Marcus,
I have no idea what you are talking about.
9:24 PM
In the second poster, it has a address for a website for some movie.
I watched it and it talked about the north american union.
I was just wondering if you had seen it.
9:35 PM
Really Carlisle? You should look it up...
9:36 PM
Marcus, did you watch all of Zeitgeist?
9:37 PM
Yeah, the second part about 9-11 I've already seen.
Interesting stuff.
Some of what the guy said in the first part was right, but he had a lot of stuff wrong too.
But I found the whole N American Union thing really interesting.
9:39 PM
Carlisle please watch the Zeitgeist movie. This is why i questioned you about the federal reserve and income tax stuff. I wanted to see if you knew about it. It talks about the WTO (World trade organization) as well.
9:40 PM
Okay, I will check it out some time soon.
