Marlon Brando Refuses His Oscar

Here's the statement that his stand-in, Sacheen Littlefeather, read at the Academy Awards.

Kudos to Marlon Brando! I respect him for writing that and having a Native American woman read it. He probably gained the cause a lot of new supporters, or at least raised awareness. It's cool to see that even decades ago celebrities spoke out for important issues.

I agree with Charlotte. Kudos to him. I don't think that celebrities would do something like this nowadays.

Bernath and Charlotte,

I don't think celebrities today would take a stand like that either. I think they would be worried about taking a hit financially for their strong opinions.

No wonder people love Marlon Brando so much! I don't think he gave up that much in favor of supporting native americans. he still got the recognition that he did win an oscar for his performance (in the godfather?) and probably more respect from the political activists of the time.
