Oh, and I'm volunteering at the library these days in a valiant attempt to shove in 50 hours of volunteering this summer for NHS. Maybe I'll see your wife there... but I don't want to ask which person she is because I don't want to creep anyone out.
My wife's name is Molly. It's on her ID badge. She's in the children's room. She has short brown hair. Sometimes she's at the desk in there. Go introduce yourself to her.
But I don't like shelving books in the children's section because I've noticed that the other volunteers who shelve stuff there can't alphabetize to save their lives, and as a result, I have to spend extra time re-shelving. Plus, authors who write children's picture books often times write hundreds of other nearly-identical children's picture books.
I actually met a librarian who fit that description, but she said her name was "Holly." Or maybe it was Molly? You know what I really don't know it was 10am and I was not quite there.
hey mr carlisle how is your summer going? what have you been doing to keep busy? do you ever visit your wife at work? maybe ill see you there sometime. i volunteer at the library as well.
i do checkin in the back room. ask her if shes seen a 6 foot 4 kid with brown hair there. i want to introduce myself again but i dont want it to be weird. anyway, what is your opinion on obama's middle east trip? do you think he has what it takes to win in november?
I didn't say shelves in the children section, just introduce yourself. Put the gun down mom!
Max,
My wife remembers you. Go say hi! As far as Obama's chances in November, who knows. He's still up in the polls but anything can happen between now and election day. It's obvious that the international community LOVES Obama. For some voters his race and inexperience are going to prevent them from voting for him.
It's going to be a very interesting fall. I can't wait!
Ok now i won't feel so bad about saying hi. I know! its going to be really exciting this fall and im anticipating some good debates in govt and economics class. i hope im not disappointed. you never answered my other question. what have you been doing to keep busy this summer? (besides biking of course)
Sorry Max. Just got back from a great bike ride. I do a lot of that. Reading. Relaxing. Seeing some movies. Enjoying my new house. Having lots of family and other visitors in town.
Procrastinating putting together a reader for IB US History. Hopefully it will be ready when the students arrive. It's going to save me a bunch of time copying. Unis' class is getting the same one.
Oi Carlisle! How goes the summer time fun? My uncle was talking about this marathon biking quest thing he did and it reminded me of you. Hopefully the readers aren't too much trouble, it was really helpful to have them in IB Psych.
Sometimes it seems like Obama has it in the bag, but then again this is the same country that elected Bush twice. Maybe the new voters will be more cautious.
This is off-topic, but I am watching a TV quiz show right now and one of the questions asked what FMLA stood for. The contestant guessed Federal Maternity Leave Act, and I was very excited that I knew what it actually was!
Well I tried to get a job this summer, but lots of places want you to be 18 (which i didn't turn until the 29th of June) so I volunteer at the library instead. I usually do that a few times a week. I really like it so far. I discovered checking out dvds from the library too and thats been fun too.
I've been hanging out with friends a lot and have gone on a few vacations as well. I had a short, one month relationship that ended on July 16th also. My worst habit though is probably eating waaaay too much fast food. I probably have it like 2-3 times a week or more.
I've been helping my dad re paint our house also when he's not working. Its been a fun summer so far, but its gone way too fast in my opinion. I still have to do the english assignment too. Ugh.
Haha. Yeah I exercise too. There is a gym thats just down the street from me that I go to every couple of days. In fact, I went on like a 30 minute jog yesterday. I counter balance all my fast food eating with exercise. Don't worry. =)
I applied at Costco, Rite Aid, Home Depot, Borders, Malibu Grand Prix, Winco Foods, Regal Cinema and a few more, but thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I never got a call back from any of them.
Well heres my thing. Obama's tax policy = not for me. However, I would rather have Obama pick supreme court justices instead of McCain because the conservative leaning court will further try to erode out civil liberties and possibly Roe v. Wade which would be bad.
I dont agree with Obama's view that we should just pull out of Iraq in 18 months no matter what. I think we've come way too far to just leave and have all the deaths be in vain. We have a relative peace right now and we can possibly withdraw safely in the next year or so and then have most of the soldiers gone with a peace keeping force remaining. I think it would be bad to throw what we have so far away for political reasons.
On the other hand, I see McCain as flip flopping on some issues like payroll tax raises and I see him some times as not knowing what he's talking about. I agree with his view on offshore drilling now even though he flip flopped on it. I hope McCain will do something about out of control spending and try to balance the budget. Although that will be tough with his promise to cut taxes more when elected. If you have any other questions about things I left out just let me know. I'll be happy to answer.
Fair points on the economic front. However, no matter who is president they're going to have to tackle the growing federal deficit. It's really hard to pay for a war while cutting taxes across the board for all income earners. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are a tremendous drain on the federal treasurey. Iraq costs US taxpayers nearly $10 billion per month!!
Yeah if we can get to a point in Iraq where we can start withdrawing troops that would be a huge help to our budget. Also, I've been reading and I found out that the U.S govt subsidizes big agricultural companies and it costs the tax payers around 300 billion a year. That is about 50-60% of our deficit right there. If we can stop that it would help out deficit immensely.
Summer's going pretty well. Nothing too exciting is happening. I've been applying to jobs and researching colleges like crazy! Like Max, almost none of the places I applied to called me. I did hear from Baskin Robbins though and I got through the interview and everything...they want to hire me once the lose some more people to college (so hopefully in mid-late Sept. I'll be scooping ice cream!)
Like Max I also have developed some very...unhealthy eating habits. I did DARE camp last week and they gave us fast food for lunch every day!! I've been riding my bike around though, so the fat hasn't been sticking.
I've done some volunteering as well, a lot of it at the library. I haven't seen Max there though! I haven't seen your wife, either. I keep seeing Holly though, the worker whose description matches your wife. Although I think Holly is probably more petite than Molly.
How is your summer?? Have you been okay since you + your wife's misfortune? I wanted to express condolences but I was unsure of what to say, so that's why I didn't post any comments on that one.
Sounds like you've been having a very busy summer. So you are going to work during the school year huh? Are you okay with that?
Thanks for your kind words regarding my wife's miscarriage. I know it's difficult to do stuff like that. I still don't know what to say when something bad like that happens to people I know. It's definitely one of life's uncomfortable realities.
Hey Carlisle, I was just wondering if you knew any place where I could get some of those nice striped shorts like Richard Simmons has. I don't see how anyone could be unfit wearing those things!
I wonder if the shopping experience with McCain says anything about his presidential abilities. Though I don't blame him after all the torture you told us he went through.
I've been reading the other comments and the NUMBER ONE key to getting a job ANYWHERE is follow up. You can't expect them to call you, you have to call back within a week. It helps them weed out the people who are really interested. I just applied for a second job at Subway down near the Tigard Grange and I'm planning on calling tomorrow! Wish me luck!
Also- I didn't know you rode bikes Mr Carlisle! I'm really into biking too, I recently bought a bike that cost just over 500 dollars, so my funding is a little low right now. However, any donations are accepted. I'm hoping to do Seattle to Portland, and I have a trip planned with my uncle to go up the entirety of the Oregon Coast.
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

Those are nice shorts.
and I think that someone from the Obama campaign tried to attack McCain by pushing over those jars.

I saw that video yesterday. I remember that punk from BMW. That commercial isn't very funny though.
CHARLOTTE!! Great to hear from you. I'm glad you got some trivia correct. I think I will put that my class can help you win trivia shows.

That's the bummer of a shaky economy I guess. Who do you think you will vote for in the presidential race this fall?
Okay, almost done with the bibilography for the IB reader. Back to work for me.

Max,
You hit the nail on the head regarding federal subsidies for big businesss. Look up the Mining Act of 1872. It should make your blood boil.
12:33 PM
I looked it up on wikipedia but i didnt see how it was connected to subsidies. Can you explain it to me or give me a website that can?
