The Week Ahead

The Civil War was the bloodiest war in American history. 

We start the week examining Reconstruction, one of the most difficult periods in American history. We'll also explore the settlement of the West and its impacts upon the environment, Native Americans, and settlers.

It's hard to believe that that many people died by the hands of their own. Americans fighting Americans. I can't even imagine what it was like to live during a time like that. Especially after the feelings of nationalism that the War of 1812 had brought America. It's also amazing to think about how much we've advanced from that time, no longer having great spurs of war that can cause fires in our own backyards.
