About Me
- Name: Mr. Carlisle
- Location: Portland, Oregon, United States
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

Carlisle, can I sit in front still? And kinda close to the center so it's easier to see the overhead?
Also, have you graded any of our tests? How do they look?

Would everyone please relax about the new seating chart please. It will work itself out on Monday.
Casey, the tests were looking good. I have about 17 more to go and I will finish grading tomorrow. Barring a snow event on Monday, I will enter the participation grade and the Unit 6 exam grade on Monday.

Well Carlisle I finally saw Cloverfield and I have to say I was fairly disappointed. Sure the guy was heroic for going back to save his "I don't know if she likes me or just wants some ass from me 'girlfriend'" and sure the huge alien was adorably cute and the part where the girl that was bitten explodes made my day, but in the end we knew nothing! Nothing about the aliens, nothing about Jason's girlfriend that left on the chopper , nothing at all. They just died! I don't like movies that just cut off like that! What was the point!? There was no point to it! No point! Arrrrrg! *insert further interjections supporting Drea's frustration!* I didn't even get motion sickness! It was a bad experience. You know, if the guy never would have gone back for Beth or whatever her name was, they'd all still be alive! Or at least for longer than they ended up being alive for! And we probably would have found out more information about the creatures and people! I just don't like the way they cut off the movie! Surprise surprise, my dad told me to dust off my imagination and use it for an ending but come on! If I wanted to use my imagination I'd read a book or make up my own story. I heard 'I am legend' is going to be a lot better though. Hehe...Will Smith working out and saving people? The perfect movie.

I actually like Cloverfield. I thought the camera angels where ingenious and the editing cleverly done.
Think about how well it does tell a story with it's limited camera time.
And not telling about the aliens made the movie, it added to the confusion and mad tone of it. That girls head blowing off, that freaked the hell out of me. CG was gorgeous and the theme and story lien it did tell was beyond sweet. Dialogue was really true to actual people to.
That movie was great because I could see myself and my friends doing that same crap, stupid but possible.

Could you also tell us how you really feel about the movie? Also, way to give away the whole movie!
I like movies that don't have Hollywood endings. I sometimes like not knowing what happened. If you think back to the beginning of the film, there was a graphic that said the entire video was property of the Department of Defense. That's a clue that the gov't at least survived the creature and perhaps the creature is dead.
Hey could you channel your passion about Cloverfield to the class? I want to hear you get fired about stuff like this in class. ;)

Oh Carlisle! That comment had almost no explicit language in it. But yes, I know, I tend to give out the ending to movies. I have no shame,haha! As for my feeling toward the movie itself, I thought it was OK. The movie was captivating in the sense that it made you feel like you were there with the characters. Well Carlisle, if the creature was dead I'd expect them to put up some information about what happened after. I hope there's going to be some follow up to Cloverfield. It would be a shame if the movie alone was all there is to it.
