That was intense.
Those people were heartless...

If they were so "religious" what happened to thou shalt not murder?

It's a very powerful reading and I know it's a bit overwhelming, but I want y'all to understand the reality of racism and where it came from.

Ugh...
I hate to think that those things actually happened.
It was worse than war.
When did that noose on the tree incident happen? A few years ago?
Humans are disgusting.

I wasn't too surprised by the reading. I've heard bits and pieces of that before...but actually putting it in writing really forces you to think about it. It's so disgusting that people did that, and I'm sure many people still would if the laws weren't so strict. I'm more thankful that I don't live in that time period.

Charlotte and Anna,

Great comments on the reading. To be honest I thought more students would comment on the reading. Very disturbing stuff indeed.

Carlisle i can't read the reading. I started it and i can't continue. Everything that it says just creepes me out and distgusts me. is there something thats not so gruesome that gets the same point across?

Kim,

Just skip ahead a few pages and it gets less gruesome. It's impossible to sugarcoat Jim Crow.

That reading was really quick. I'm glad there weren't any pictures. Even still, the things they did to black people...without real evidence. I think it was less about the actual crimes they committed and more about racism. They used "protecting southern women" as their reason but I think they were just hysterical sadists. It's interesting how the majority affects morality so much. And I can't believe this was only 100 years ago... That is crazy. But I'm glad that society has taken a turn for the better since then.

Brandon and Sarah,

I really loved both of your comments. Sarah, lynchings will continue past WWI. This shameful era from American history is still fresh today.
