Debate updates

Go here for lots of great information about the presidential campaign. There's talk of postponing the VP debate too!

Awesome! Carlisle uses the same source as me :P

I suggest looking at that and it's parent (CNN.com/Politics) at least once a day for good political updates.

They also just added an Electoral College picker, where you can figure out the different election results.

Updated Electoral College Map

This time I used FiveThirtyEight.

It's easily the best place to go for polling and statistics, and is updated usually once a day with new state-wide poll data. I find his data to be more accurate than anywhere else.

What he does is he takes each state poll and weights it using math (I know you hate math Carlisle, so that's as far as I'll go into that explanation :P), then takes all the polls from that state in the past 30 days and finds out who is leading based on the weighted average of the polls.

I'm still miffed we can't have totally awesome debate parties with our friends and totally go at each other while watching these things. It would be great.

And we could TiVo it for our parents and discuss it later. D:

Sad day, Carlisle, sad day.

Casey,

I love fivethirtyeight. It's a great website.

Allie,

Don't start fretting yet. I'm pretty confident the debate will happen Friday night.

Obama has refused to cancel or postpone it, so it will be interesting to see what McCain does.

He's already given hints he may cancel on it, but in the end, I don't think his staff will let him. If he no-shows, his favorability ratings will drop, and it will give the Obama campaign enough ammo to hammer McCain with until election night.

Pretty much, the only way McCain can win this is if he shows up to all 3 debates, and the VP debate goes forward as planned. If he or Palin bail (even once), it's over for him.

Also, personally, I think he's doing this solely for political reasons. He is one senator, there is very little he can add to the negotiations of the bailout deal. The only thing he is trying to do here is try to act like a leader, but I think it will backfire.

Anybody see Katie Couric interviewing Sarah Palin? Katie Couric owned Sarah Palin almost as much as the hulk owned that bear in the awesome campaign commercial.

Unfortunately for Katie Couric, it's not hard to beat Sarah Palin in a simple political discussion.

I hate attack ads/statements, because they're all about putting your opponent down to make yourself better by comparison, and they never actually look at the issues. I don't want a president who's willing to do that.

That being said, I'm looking forward to the debates. That's usually a good sign of where each candidate stands.

It makes sense that they are postponing it. They are still senators, And the senate is about to make an big ($700,000,000,000) decisions.

what do you guys think about McCain suspending his presidential campaign because of this financial crisis and stating that the US could slip into another depression similar to the great depression by Monday if we do not work out a solution

I agree with Alex. It really bugs me when you've got people like Smith/Merkley who constantly go at it. They point out things they've voted for/done and they make them sound absolutely terrible. Merkley could've voted for housing for all the homeless puppies of Portland and Smith would say "MERKLEY SAVES HOMELESS PUPPIES, BUT WHAT ABOUT HOMELESS KITTENS? MERKLEY HATES KITTENS AND WANTS THEM TO SUFFER! DON'T VOTE FOR HIM!" It's ridiculous. And like Alex said, the debates aren't (normally) about attacking the other, it's more about voicing your opinion about what we actually care about--what you believe and what you're going to do for this country. And I enjoy that. =]

I don't know what you're talking about, but seeing them go at each other it pretty entertaining. :P

Haha, just kidding. But all in all, I agree. I haven't really watched very much of the campaigns, but seeing them always put each other down is unnerving.
