Is this supposed to be controversial or are you just letting us know about it?
It seems to me he deserves to go to a good school.

Negative.
"I focus on trying to retain the material and really learn it," he says, "not so much on getting an A."
I wish more students did that in lieu of chasing after every single point in order to maintain their GPAs. On the flip side of that, I wish more non-IB students actually gave a rip about learning stuff.

Okay, I see your point now.
Anyway, in classes like psychology, history, and anatomy and physiology (one's I actually like) I care a lot about learning/understanding the material and enjoying the class.
However, in classes like Precalc which I do not care at all about I only do as much as I have to to get good scores. I really could care less if I develop a lasting understanding of conic sections or not.

I can understand your sentiments perfectly.

i think its nice that he really wants to learn and it not just the grades, i really do but i cant help but think he might be playing the "im just a regular guy" card for the attension too. i know i cant squat 600 pounds and also out test into 99th percentile.

i second brandons notion. also, hes not taking IB hes taking AP. i thought IB was harder. also, i really like the way that his mom was talking about him as a natural learner lol, he learned how to use the toilet in a week. if i were him, i wouldnt like my mom as much

I think it makes a difference when it is a class that you actually enjoy and not a class that you are just forced to go to. It is a really good lesson to learn and to live by, and it should be taught early on.
