I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

I heard that he called it as well. The Sec. of Defense called him personally to ask him to cease and desist with the burning.

I'm at least glad that other church is rejecting his actions and trying to spread a message of tolerance.
Also, I looked it and apparently, he's decided not to do, but in exchange for the Islamic community to moved (which both the head of the project and the moving company deny). :|

It's just ridiculous he wants to burn books he has never read himself. He is just going to spread hate with an extremely stupid action.

He is standing for the right thing in the complete worst way... What bugs me the most is that he is such a hypocrite. He teaches the Bible but isn't abiding by it himself - "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you..."

I think,like a lot of other people, think that this person is just strengthening the ideas people have about Americans. But he hasn't read this book and he says that it has no value and will lower the moral of the Islamic extremists. But think about this, if you were so extreme about your religion you would feel like they defeated you, or would you become angry and strike back when they burnt your holy word.

I cant help but laugh when i see this... he knows hes in the wrong, and he knows hes just doing it for attention. Its no suprise he didnt go through with the burning, perhaps im being a bit to cynical, but he's just in it for kicks...

It is racist that he is doing this awful thing, and I am tying to understand why he is doing it. I think he just wants to show the particular people responsible that the U.S. is not to be messed with. This has already been proven by the war, so I consider his message, demonstrated in any way, unnecessary. If he feels he needs to say it, he should get his message out in a different way, like the other church was doing, with the message of peace and tolerance.

I think that by this pastor doing something like this,or even talking about doing something like this, he is putting our troops in great harm. There could be a great outbreak of violence in the middle east, putting our troops in even more danger.

Although he legally has the right to burn the Qur'an all he wants, he should consider an alternative way to fight terrorist initiatives that doesn't risk the lives and reputations of Americans (e.g. Everybody Draw Mohammed Day).

To me this seems like Jones is provoking the Islamic people to send a message in this awful way and he expects them not to retaliate. He is very blind man if he doesn't see that the troops will be put in even more danger with what he is planing on doing.

The burning of the Qur'an is strong symbolism, just as the burning the American flag is very strong symbolism. I say we should all stop burning things.

Give props to this guy for taking a stand. It's about time someone did something. This is why we have the first amendment! Freedom of speech people. He may just want to create controversy, but this is important! Having our freedoms compromised by radical minorities is unamerican and I will not stand for it!

The First Amendment is very condescending in this case, while he does have the freedom of speech and such, he is taking away other AMERICANS freedom of religion which is also stated in the first amendment. He is just as radical as the Muslim radicals he is targeting. If and when the radical Muslims retaliate, the blood WILL be on his hands and on all the hands of people supporting him.

I don't understand how this pastor would think that burning the Qur'an would have any sort of positive outcome. Also, he should have at least read the Qur'an before he talks about burning it.

I think that this pastor grouping all Muslims as terrorists is completely ridiculous. If he knew anything about the Islamic religion, he would know that the Muslim extremist group that attacked the trade towers were from a group that saw the concept of "jihad" in a way that is different from the majority of Muslims.

It's a shame that he does not realize that by burning the Quran, the hatred between the U.S. (not all citizens) and Islamic/Muslim people will only continue to grow. And not only will the hatred grow, but the terrible stereotype of rasist Americans will also be reinforced.

If that pastor gets killed, it would be by a terrorist not by a Muslim. Iranians and Iraqis who burn American flags burn them as citizens of their own country not as Muslims. The Qur'an says that a Muslim can't kill a person unless it has been officially declared Jihad meaning that killing a person instantly means a death sentence and hell.
Basically, building a Mosque near Ground Zero is supposed to send a message to the world that we, as a nation, are not completely ignorant. It's supposed to say "Muslims of the world, don't let the minority of American's get you down. We know you're not evil. It wasn't 'Muslims' that attacked us. The people that attacked us just happened to be Muslim."
If anything, this incident would just increase terrorism in the Middle East. Think of how easy it would be for terrorists to use the image of an American burning the Qur'an as a way to instigate civilians and get them to hate America even more.

I agree that it is ridiculous of Jones to threaten to burn the Qurans. He says he will burn them to make the radical Islamics back down, but I think that the radical Islamics will take the burning of the books as an open invitation to do something more rash.

Like everyone has said, this is racist and a ridiculous action for this pator to take. I tried thinking of reasons of why he would be motivated to do such a thing and my mind sort of wandered into the thought that if he does this, it puts Americans at risk of some form of attack. So then I thought, maybe he wants them to attack us and really he's on their side! I don't know though seems kind of out there...

i would think that being a pastor, he would understand that even if he doesn't believe he would be responsible for soldiers deaths, that he should try and avoid doing anything that would put others lives at stake

Burning the Quran wouldn't only impact the radical Muslims but all Muslims. I don't see any benefit to burning the Quran, the only good decision he's made so far is thinking about calling it off.

I think this man is out of his place to be burning the Koran. Yes he has the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, but at what expense? Does he have the right to exercise his freedoms even if it puts those fighting for it in potential danger? I also don't agree that this is something God would be or is supporting. The Bible says God is love if you want to show God show love, simple as that.
