I'm glad my parents didn't bring me up like that. I know how to do all of the stuff the article talked about. I agree with the statement that in a decade or two we won't have plastic ice cube makers. That's technology for you.

Not knowing how to get ice cubes out of an ice tray? WHAT? I'm thankful my parents took the time to show me how to do some of these ordinary things.

I think we can all agree, it is the parents fault some kids are like this. The teenagers that look on Google and ask their parents for answers are the smart ones; they are using the resources provided to them and their parents should have taught them anyway.

Who needs a brain when you have an iPhone anyway?

This Article made me think of what my brother said: "Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no Internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft."

It's not just the parents though; society as a whole needs to be making sure the next generation is equipped to deal with the reality that not everything is going to be done for them. It'll be painful, but in the end if they don't learn now, they'll have to do it when they're grown up and on their own....something that'll be much harder than if they'd learned it at a younger age.

Wow, these parents sure know how to raise their children. Such simple tasks like tying their shoes and using an ice tray, and they are unable to do them that's just sad.
I hope you don't raise your kid like this Carlisle

Jimmy,

Nora can already tie her own shoes and get ice out of an ice tray.

I can't even comprehend how someone could not be able to use an ice cube tray. You don't have to be taught, it just is logical. But I agree that the last generation also had a different skill set than their parents, so it is not that unusual for these kids to know technological things rather than old fashioned, no longer used manual things.

The first time i encountered a ice tray, i decided to hit it on the closest and hardest thing i could find, and sure enough the ice came out. I think these kids just haven't learned the, "hit on something and see if it works," rule yet. Its worked for me so far and i have turned out good so far.

But as for the parents, step back and let them learn, dont hold there hand all the way out of college or sure enough before the first semester is over they will be back living with you and they will never leave, never.

i didnt read the whole article but i dont agree with what it said about technology, technology only makes things easier for us, but doesnt stop us from learning, its the way people depend on the technology that is the problem. also, its not just the parents fault because some things you just need to figure out for yourself
