I saw this video awhile back and i find it very interesting. it takes a lot of math to figure out what day it will be on a certain date several years in the past or future. This lady can do this with half of a brain, but i cant at all.
That is a pretty crazy story. I find it interesting how the brain can repair itself even in an extreme case like this. This and the tragic incident with Phineas makes me wonder what else the brain is capable of. If it can repair itself in ways unimaginable, I am sure it can do things far beyond what we know already.
The women in the the video clip seemed very capable. Isn't the left right side of your brain what controls Logical thought? Wouldn't it be capable of repairing injuries that your body has sustained.
I think that it is crazy that her brain rewired itself, so that the right side could take over some of the functions that the left side would typically be responsible for. Very interesting video!
From what i learned in Anatomy is it true that in a way we are all born with half a brain and we slowly start to connect the wires and create the other half? That's why babies heads are kind of soft during the beginning stages
I am really impressed with all the rewiring her brain had to do. In the baby brain video today we saw how our brain can avoid not working neurons and send info from one side of the body to both hemispheres. In woman's case may all her senses learned to travel from both sides of the body to only the one hemisphere. I saw a documentary about that and they said the brain learns and has to learn its tasks first. So it seems like the available hemisphere specialized for all the tasks the other half was supposed to do. She brings talking, seeing and handling stuff together in one place outside her body. With only one hemisphere it means that there's only one place in her brain where it comes from.
i am very impressed that she has accomplished all the things she has. if someone told me she had only half a brain, i would not expect to see what this video has shown!
Wow... I find this video extremely interesting. It's hard to believe the brain can rewire itself and she can function as well as she does with only half of a brain!
That's crazy! It's amazing that someone would be able to function that well with only half a brain, let alone graduate high school. Good for her, and predicting the day 2 years from now? Like Nolan said I can't even do that.
I'm amazed that she can do all that she does with only half a brain! It's pretty interesting to think that the brain can adapt so that a person can function with only half a brain!
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

Question, if she is born with half a brain, is this a form of anencephaly?
