Random reading I stumbled upon today.

http://www.nola.com/opinions/index.ssf/2011/01/1811_slave_revolt_cant_be_forg.html

Summary: Charles Deslondes, a slave, led a slave rebellion in 1811 that was multiple times larger than Nat Turner/John Brown's uprisings. He freed slaves and tried to take over New Orleans and start his own black republic.

Is there a reason he isn't mentioned in anything that we learned?
