If that happened here would we get out of school. if we did then it would be a smog day instead of a snow day.

That's so unhealthy and disgusting. I thought it was just foggy when I first saw the picture. We're lucky that in Portland and Tigard we're a little greener and better about pollution.

Beijing is desperate for a solution to this smog problem and I don't think they can do this without significant economic and social consequences. You can't just keep ordering factories to close temporarily and not expect something to happen. Eventually the number of cars needs to stop increasing either through extensive public transportation projects or through freeway access restrictions depending on a car's license plate and the day of the week like Brazil.

First off, Do planting trees really make that big of a difference? and Mr. Pan talks about how he wants to make an Act to control the air pollution. Is this even possible? Seeing how China is so dependent on coal (consuming 47% of global consumption) it would be very hard if not impossible to become a more green country. But they have to do something because it is gross and hazardous!

It's just incredible to me that measures are being put into place now, rather than when the Chinese first notices the problem. I'm not sure that this problem is fixable at all, even with the economic chanes/consequences that Austin H proposed. I think that even the USEPA is a day late and a dollar short, not to mention the Chinese government..

This whole situation is so sad.. I wish China didn't depend on so many factories because then there would be less smog.. /;

I would hate to live there. The smog is bad for the lives of nearby residents and it looks really disgusting to have to breathe that in and get smoker's lungs.

Wow this is crazy! how did they let the air become so polluted, it scaring to see that happening so quickly. If America made all our products here do you think we might run into this problem?
