i think there shouldn't be a ban and they should have the right to be in combat. Why was this not discussed earlier if women have been serving in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan?
I think it's good that the ban on women serving in combat roles. I mean, the women who have actually fought in combat and those women who want to be in combat deserve the right to do so. Besides, it seems a bit foolish that there would be a ban in the first place when women are perfectly capable.
This is another great step for the roles of women in our society. Moving from a household kitchen(stereotype), to a voting booth, to the battlefield - In less than a century. Regardless, It shouldn't have taken this long.
You should look into this video Carlisle, it's intense. Watch all of it! URL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_603354&feature=iv&src_vid=Wx9GxXYKx_8&v=_nUOBSN03TU&bpctr=1358987828
I agree with this because, as Ivy said, women are obviously capable of being in combat since they have previously proven that they can handle it. If women want to serve their country, just like men, they should have the right to do so without restrictions. Things are just finally catching up with the current times
I don't know if I completely support this. There needs to be clarifications for the future. If there was a draft, would the same number of women be drafted as men? What about those women who would rather serve on the homefront? How about women and children being protected during wartime, would the civilian women be viewed differently by foreign nations?
Women should've had the right to be in any area of combat from the very beginning, I never knew that there were combat roles women weren't allowed to participate in before this happend.
I think this is fabulous news! I'm confused as to why this restrictive rule was implemented in 1994 (according to the 2nd paragraph). So was there no ban on women in combat before that, or was there just an even stricter ban that isn't mentioned?
This news is great, as it allows women who have already served to be recognized for their service. As long as the same physical and mental standards are put on men and women, women won't be a liability on the battlefield like many fear. Now that women will have to sign up for the draft as well, some mothers might reconsider their support for the many pointless wars the US fights.
I think it's great that women are serving but i also thought previously that they already had the right to do so, so this shocked me a little bit. Anyways, anyone should be able to do something they wish to do no matter what gender they are.
I'm for this measure, women should be allowed to contribute just as much as men are. Doesn't mean I agree with how they are contributing, but it's their choice, not mine.
I think that it's a fantastic step towards total equality. Why should it matter what your gender is if we're all fighting to defend our country? Woman as well as men should always have the choice to do whatever they want with their lives. No job should be closed off to one gender.
This makes me very happy! Even though I would not join the war it's nice knowing that women who do aspire to fight for their country can do so with the same rights as men. I find the ban to be silly because the women signed up to serve. That means they must know what they were getting themselves into. Besides, maybe that's what some women would prefer than just being in the background. Thanks for sharing Carlisle!
It's crazy in the 21st century that the U.S. would even have such a ban which goes against equality which is what our nation prides itself on now. Why would anyone even be taken back or offended upon hearing this, especially people of power? Women are capable of being in combat, they've done it before without permission; if they get permission then they would be able to be trained properly and have even more success.

Michael,
If that documentary presents some crazy conspiracy theory that there was more than one shooter, then I'm not interested.

Hahah it proposes a lot more than that. You should really watch all of it though. I know you hate "truthers" as do I. It's really interesting.
