Helpful Essay Tips

Essay #1:
Please avoid over-summarizing the four parts of the essay question. Make sure your ANALYSIS comes through when you explain how the election of Lincoln, the Dred Scott decision, the Compromise of 1850, and John Brown's raid pushed the North and South further apart.

Essay #2:
Have a strong thesis and support it with evidence. Go back and review your notes from readings and video clips. Don't forget to include information on the plight of African Americans in the South post-Reconstruction (hint: see handout on voting). 

Essay #3:
You've got more than enough information on the part of the essay question concerning Native Americans. You will need to incorporate information from the class discussion tomorrow in your essay as well.
