Domstrand,
That's what war can do to a person.

What an incredible sacrifice. I believe in this day and age people have a more clear thought of what could happen to them in war, rather than 200 years ago, which can make soldiers like him so much more courageous.

yah, im actually really surprised that they havent been able to do more prosthetically for him. he looks kinda like darth vader atm. but that just proves more to the point that war is hell

aww poor guy. i wonder if he thinks his deformity was worth fighting for the US. i don't think so, but then again i'd rather get pregnant and maybe even cut off some toes then join the services

I had to do a little searching around - the site you gave us doesn't show the pictures anymore.
I found another page about the same thing though.

That's really sad though and really shows that there are worse war injuries than missing a toe, finger, or hand - maybe even an arm.. of course.. all of those suck badly too.
My uncle used to work with ah... I forgot what he used to work with.. but he was healthy. One day while he was working, something went wrong and the thing he was working with blew up.(I seriously can't remember what he used to work on..) One of his arms is reduced to a stump. One leg was blown off and took a bit of work to reattatch.. but to lose your ears, go blind in one eye, lose your fingers and an arm, and other horrible things?
..That's a lot worse than losing an arm.
Anyway.. Glory was an awesome movie - glad you showed it to us.

this kind of pic makes me wonder if we as people do too much to save peoples lives. its quite obvious that this guy will never return to the life he knew and now has to deal with burdens daily that could easily crush any of us. just a thought.

Stephen,
You raise a very interesting point. It seems that you think that we do too much for people like the gentleman in the photo.
It's hard to imagine living like that, however, what if you lost the ability to walk, see, or hear? The guy in the photo will never look the same again, but at least he's living.

thats some seriously messed up stuffed. if i was him, i couldn't still marry her, and if i was her, i couldn't still marry him. it would be impossible for her to look at him the same, and i'd imagine it would be impossible for him to feel like she could still love him or like he would deserve her. i mean jesus, just look at the two of them. they don't look like they are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together...if only every other married couple had their foresight. hah, kidding. but seriously, i doubt their marrige will last.
