wow this show has a lot of amazing footage especially the part where the airplane crashed on the cargo ship. It is so sad to watch this and wonder what it would be like if I was one of them. I think I'm going to watch this tonight. Maybe Mr. Carlisle you could record this show and maybe show it to us later in the year.
As I watch this preview, I can only think could that be me? As you know I will be "uping" this December into the military. I don't know how to put this lightly, so I'll put it bluntly. I don't want to die like that. I don't think annyone wants to die like that. But if I do die like that on the battlefield I will not regret. Nor will I regret fighting to defend my country.
In the preview there are alot of amazing shots, and I appluade the combat photographers who where there risking there lives to show us a firsthand acount of the Cruelty of war and comradery the soldiers had between each other.
I am going to watch this tonight.
To anyone who reads this post who is going into the military think about this:
My mom's watching this tonight. She was trying to tell me about it and I was like, "Sorry, Mom. Carlisle told us all about it." I think that's the first time I knew about something before her!
Wow. This looks like it'll be good. It's amazing how brave those people are and the people who filed it. I'm glad we're going to see some of this during the class later on.
Wow. Looks interesting, wish I could watch, but I'm swamped tonight. I'm hosting some Japanese girls so we've been busy entertaining them.
I still don't fully understand war. Maybe it's one of those kinds of things you have to experience firsthand to comprehend. I can't understand how people can just kill each other, people they don't know. I wonder if war veterans regret their actions later, and I don't just mean American war veterans. Humanity is described as being human. Being human is described as being humane. Where does our humanity go in times of war? Is killing the only option to get our way? Even though we hear about it in the news and read about it in our textbooks the whole thing feels a bit surreal to me.
Your comments on the nature of war ring very true. However, does that mean you do not support war at all? We will discuss just war theory later this year. Great comments everyone.
I don't know yet. Is there ever a situation where war is the absolute only option? I'm not so sure. Are there causes worth dying for? Yes. But does the cause make killing justifiable? I'll have to think on it.
I'm watching it now... And I see how the media covers the war, and also how they show some of the gruesome footage, like Time Magazine... But then I wonder were that footage is today, to show some people the real deal, orphan children crying, and mothers clutching their dead husbands, children in their arms, and dead soldiers. Though it may be hard to accept or see I think people need to see the real horrific footage, not just hear, "this many people died today". Because people are not just numbers, and that's what it feels like today. It feels like Soldiers and civilian causalities are just numbers. Did they withhold casualty figures in WWII? I'm sure there were plenty of secrets kept from the public then too...
Another thing that puzzles me is how taxes have not greatly heightened to support the cost of The war in Iraq. I know the government has spent absurd amounts of money the war today, it seems we are rigging up a huge national debt. In the video they talk about war bonds, and how taxes alone could not fund the war, but today, it seems that the average American is not sacrificing for the cause (weather it be worthy or not). Maybe so as not to draw the attention of the people to where their money is really going...
The pain, suffering, destruction, death, and impact on the spirits of the people directly involved on every side is too immense to imagine. The sickening impact that war leaves on mankind is inexpressible through words.
Though this video may educate me, I don't believe I can fathom the reality of it... And I hope I will never have to, I wish no one had to... But perhaps their is comfort in fighting in a war that you feel is just, or fighting for a cause you believe in... It seems that people believed that in WWII you were truly serving your country for a just cause. I suppose that creates the willingness to serve one's country. But is war ever truly ok, ever moral, ever justified? I have no idea...
There is so much more I could write about here, also in relation to current politics, but I will save it for another time... I can't watch the whole thing because I'm sick and really beat down. I don't even know if I will be at school tomorrow... I better be, for the test though.
This looks alot different than most World War 2 documentries. There was a really interesting article in Newsweek about this special that I read yesterday (at the doctors' office) and the importance of hearing the soilders'and military families individual accounts of how the war effected them. I think that by view the war from a more personal account, it makes it seem more real as opposed to reading it our of a textbook. I definatly want to try and see some of this program.
