Casey,

The readings are God?!? I didn't think they were that good.

Unfortunately Mr. McPherson doesn't have any books that will take us through the rest of the year. Sorry.

Niz,

Of course you can. I also checked homework today so make sure you show it to me tomorrow in the B class. Just ask your teacher if you can come.

Niz,

Negative. Don't forget to explore the sleep links in the post below today's agenda. You can get participation points for that.

Carlisle,

Should I write out "one-hundred and fifty" or type 150?
Some numbers, like 738, I typed with numbers, but that's because they were long and messy written out. 150 isn't very messy written out but I want to be consistent. And then some numbers, like fifty-five, I kept written out because they are short.
I'm just not sure what to do with 150.
Should I change all my numbers to numerical form even if they are short?

on the psychology sleep links below i thought it was really weird that its not good to work out or go running 3 hours before you go to bed, as well as drinking tea or something, cuz i always thought running like an hour before bed relaxced me and helped me sleep better, but i guess its not the best idea.

Charlotte,

The general rule on numbers in a formal paper is that you type them out. However, I don't really care if you do or not. The problem I have is when you type some out and not others. Either type them all out or don't.

Sentences starting with numbers should have the number typed out, right? I have one sentence that starts with "One" and one that starts with "Two." I changed all the other numbers into numerical form but it looks awkward for a sentence to start with a 1 or a 2.

I'm pretty sure that the rule of thumb is that the numbers 1-20 are supposed to be written out, but post 20 you can just put the number.

Hey Mr. Carlisle,
Where do you get those political cartoons from?

Then you, sir, are out of order.

Charlotte,

What Chris said.

Emily,

Thanks for those videos, good stuff.

Casey,

Your typo, not mine. Look at your previous quote.

Nicole,

I can show you tomorrow. Too tired. 12 hour day today. Want to veg on couch now.

I am more than well aware of my typo, I was trying to play it off, but you had to ruin it.

If you weren't out of order before, you are now!

Also, found out I could change my blogger display name :P (I've had an account for some time, but the nick was an alias different than my name, so if I used it, none of you would know who I was :P)

Mr. Carlisle,

The following article tells a sobering story of things to come if we as a nation do not place a higher value on classical education.
Happy Holidays!

Omg, that article was insane.
"Our tax dollars should be spent preparing our children for the future, not for what has already happened," Hatch said at a recent press conference. "It's about time we stopped wasting everyone's time with who 'did' what or 'went' where. The past tense is, by definition, outdated."
Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it... They want to cut all that stuff from the schools to save money, but won't it cost them more money in the end because people are going to be horribly uneducated and can't get good jobs?

Notice the kid at the end? He used the present tense the whole time. That's really depressing...

Karen,

Thanks for the link. That was hilarious. Your cool factor just went up by 100%. I love any parent that reads The Onion. I can't wait to tell Haley that.

Have you read the article about the Greyhound bus crash?

Please, let's keep our little chat a secret, Haley doesn't particularly like it when you mention me in class.

Blogger Mr. Carlisle said...

Haven't read that article. I am ashamed to admit that I neglect The Onion too much.

I won't mention our chat in class, however, Haley needs to get over that. Have a great weekend.

Haley,

I'm sure when I have kids they're going to think I'm a dork too. However, I can tell you without a doubt that your mom is way cooler than my mom.

Have a good weekend.

Blogger Karen Sesnon said...

Dear Haley,

Trevor said in an email to me today "I am just so glad my mom is not like you." Not everyone thinks I am cool.

Those who think I am cool get better presents. I am not getting Trevor anything.

Now, back to the topic of US History. What do you think will be obsolete by the time you have kids?
For me ...reel to reel tapes, pop top cans that you can use the pop tops to make chains out of, and wax baggies.
