Scottsboro Boys

The arrest of nine African-American young men for the rape of two white women in 1931 ultimately became one of the causes of the Civil Rights Movement. The documentary that you will watch tomorrow is really good. Please come to class well-rested and ready to finish the quarter strong. I know I am ready, especially since I had a nice little epiphany about teaching this weekend. See you all tomorrow.

"epiphany about teaching"

Should I be scared about that?

The documentary made me very angry. It was so obvious that the women were lying. I think the deep South's racial problems at the time would never have made it possible for the boys to be found not guilty. Those women disgust me.

I hear you Charlotte. I hope you guys understand why some African Americans were "happy" when OJ was acquitted of murder. African American men have received a pretty raw deal from the American justice system over the years. I'm glad you enjoyed the film. Wait until you see the film on Emmett Till.
