Hey Carlisle

So I'm a little confused about the Iran Hostage crisis? They took the American's helping them bulid up there military under hostage because they brought the old leader Sah to America for cancer treatment?

And then we were helping them in the first place to get the Russians out of Afganistan to stay away from oil??

Help! Andrea

I would have put this up here earlier, but I just got home:

I slew of superdelegates have announced their endorsements for Barack Obama, including House Majority Whip James Clyburn, and former President Jimmy Carter. This puts him now 7 delegates short of clinching the nomination, with the delegates from Montana (16) and South Dakota (15) yet to be allocated, he is certain to have the nomination by the time he makes his speech later tonight in at the Saint Paul Arena, the same place John McCain will be nominated in 3 months.

Andrea L or K??

The U.S. long supported the Shah of Iran when the CIA helped to install him to power in 1954 under Presdient Eisenhower. The U.S. liked the Shah because he was anti-communist and Iran has OIL.

The Shah brutalized Iranians with oppressive tactics like his secret police, which tortured and killed those who spoke out against rule.

A growing militancy in Iran wanted to set up a theocratic gov't ruled by Islamic fundamentalists who were lead by the Ayatollah Kohmeni. The Shah leaves for cancer treatment and the militants have an uprising. The American embassy was overun and the Americans were held hostage for 444 days. The Ayatollah demanded the Shah be returned to Iran to stand trial. The U.S. refused.

You will see more about this in the video we are going to watch tomorrow on Jimmy Carter and the rest of the 1970s.

Hope this helps.

its pretty amazing that most US chosen leaders are the most hated by their own people......the US is a funny country; nice people, nice country, manipulative and ugly government

With the polls now closed in South Dakota, and some votes in, it can be projected that Barack Obama will gain enough pledged delegates from the state to push him over the magic number of 2,118 delegates.

Barack Obama is now the presumptive Presidential Nominee for the Democratic Party.
