Ha this makes me a bit sentimental. Reminds me of the good ol' days of Loony Toons and Mary Poppins and such.
I sound like I'm 80...

But it's cool that a guy can make a wrong turn and we'll give him his own holiday. I think I'll try something like that.

THE UNIVERSE IS ROUND!!! Seeya in a couple months!

I'll be glad once he's gone, not because I think he's a bad president, but just so I don't have to hear all these people slamming him constantly. It's getting pretty annoying, to hear no pride for our country in the past 2 years. I'd like to see anyone else do better in the situation he was given to handle.

Yeah, just like alex said the good old, brain washing, misinforming cartoons. I really wish that cartoons would give the true story.

Period 2, i can't figure out how to get that in my name, cause i already made an account with Caro (had him last semester). Anyway, Alex is right about the holiday, that's a good idea! I want my own! I think the music on that thing is hilarious! That with their facial expressions, very good clip indeed!

I don't want to get too into this because I have experience with these things getting rather heated but I'm in support of the way, unlike everyone else in this state.

It's nothing to do with country hating. Love the country, hate the crooked politics. What I'd like to see more of, is less party loyalty, and more country loyalty...

Ever heard the saying, "A patriot supports his country all the time and his government only when it deserves it."?

Back on topic here, I love how Columbus is portrayed as a hero who kept going even when no one believed him. I was taught the same thing in 1st grade. But in my honest opinion historical material (even cartoons) like this need to give at least some indication of the whole story. They don't have to have a cartoon of Columbus taking credit for seeing land first when he probably didn't or his men killing and enslaving helpless "indians", but they don't have to make him a good guy either. That's my thoughts at least, if you talked to me 10 years ago I probably would have thought differently.

I think the credit should go to Amerigo Vespucci, he really was the first to recognize the whole "4th continent" deal. Well I guess he did get a lot of credit, seeing as it's named after him and all...

While the video fails at telling the true story of Columbus, it goes to show that a leader with powerful rhetoric (a nice singing voice) can convince his men to join him in committing genocide.

And is it just me, or did Columbus dye his hair half-way through the show?

wow, i love that it had absolutely no mention of the enslaving of the natives, i mean, even for a cartoon thats pretty bad i think.

also, the king of spain looked like Hitler, sorry, just had to get it off my chest

Hmmm that cartoon was almost hard to watch. All the singing and such. I think it's funny how this video portrays Columbus as a genius who just randomly thought the world was round like a ball. I guess all cartoons can't be factual.

Hahahahahah wow who has time to do this sort of stuff. It's almost as big of a waste of time as the obama song. Oh well it's pretty funny more power to them.

Haha kyle sounds like a McCain lover, good luck with that.

My favorite character was the small, half pink half white pig that one of the Indians was holding. How cute.

Columbus' return-route to Spain loooks ridiclous. Like a two year old was driving the boat, for goodness sake!

It's strange how they leave out the bad side of Columbus and portray him as a hero. Not a very accurate film although pretty funny.

Uh, Kyle, I knew it was you. No deletions will be made.

I'm pretty sure this cartoon is either from the 1950s or early 1960s. Y'all will most certainly get the straight dope on your country's history this year. The good, the great, and the ugly. Oh, don't forget some history on Canada as well.

Columbus was just tryin to keep it real, even though the a capella crew was whack.

That was gorgeous. It changed my life.
I was especially impressed by its overall accuracy. Like how it was Colubus' idea that the world is round. That was priceless.

Yeah this movie was kinda entertaining. I thought it was interesting how they showed him as a really amazing guy but the "real" story is not the same. I also think it is interesting how he has a holiday even though he didn't do the best thing. And not all the world knows the "truth".

I think the movie is kind of cheesy, disney is so much better.

I am starting to relize what you ment by when you said that you can not beleive everything you read and see. The person who created this movie clip was obviously ment for the younger crowd because the forgot to mention important parts, such as the murder of the Indians.

This cartoon reminds me of Disney a little bit because I remmeber watching the old disney movies a lot and they seemed similar. (Well singing and all.) Jeez that video must be the most surgar coated story of all time.

By the way during that lecture today while taking notes about how historians are biased through writing and all and we got to the example of Japan and their filtration. It reminded me a lot of China because they filtered out goggle of the incident in Tinnamen Square, also even when my family and I was in China, my dad asked the tour guide about Tinnamen Square Incident and it surprised me a little that he couldn't tell us much about it except that he couldn't take his entrance exams that day for a univeristy with his other peers. Kind of weird that he still doesn't know much about it.

That was awesome. Was the part about his crew finding the branch and then not deciding to take over the ship true? Does he deserve fame and his own day like Dr. King and other historical figures or was he just a fool? Peace out Mr. Carlisle and do you still have thoes paper that we made at the begining of the year where we wrote the top then things or events that were important in U.S history?

Well at least there's some truth in it. The video seriously reminded me of the movies they showed us in elementary school on Columbus.

This seems like a cartoon idea of the "good side" of what happened. They only show the things that they would tell 2nd or 3rd graders. This movie is similar to a controlled society because the movie in this case gets to show the watcher what they want instead of the actual truth.

That was hilarious- it's a history of america musical! But anyways, it is kind of funny watching that video now
knowing the real truth. Kind of funny how they never mention the Native Americans getting slaughtered by the "hero" Columbus.

haha, I have to say that the King looked like either Stalin or Hitler when Columbus was presenting his idea.
The story was also all about how good Columbus was and they never showed anything of what he actually did during his stay in the islands of the carribean.

The fact that columbus is potrayed as a great hero by people who should no better is pretty bad. A lot of people don't really care about what actually happened and just over look the truth about his mistakes and give more credit to him than is deserverd such that he found land first and he was the first one to think the world was round.
