Oh my God--that's terrible. I had no idea the Civil War was this destructive. And I honestly didn't know that there were even prison camps during this war, either.

The website doesn't make the prison sound as horrible as I'm sure it was. The picture is gruesome. It's strange how we were fighting against Hitler and his cruelty to people, but when it came down to it, we were basically doing the same thing. And to people who used to share a Union with us. Hmmmm

ok carlisle i dont care what you tell me. that guy is not alive! not possible... he is dead. he is a pure 100% skeleton. no way...

Alex,
The Civil War was incredibly DESTRUCTIVE. Over 600,000 people died fighting in the war. The Union had a horrible POW camp in New York called Ft. Elmira. However, Andersonville was the worst.
Tucker,
Alive.

Wow I honestly didn't know that about the Civil War either. That is crazy. And that picture is pretty gruesome. It is sad to think that this was one country fighting and it was ours.
6:21 PM
That was a really gross picture.
I think im going to be sick in class this week!
8:42 PM
That picture was disgusting!! How could he possibly be alive? He looks like he would fall apart if he moved an inch.
9:17 PM
Ya. I think the Civil War is commonly romanticized. I've never really heard about the negative aspects of the war. I knew it was somewhat gruesome, but nothing has ever really been brought up about the horrors of the war. I'm really excited to learn about the war this week.
9:22 PM
I didn't know that there were POW camps as horrible as this during the civil war. I guess you learn something new everyday.
9:53 PM
this reminds me of Master Unis's old war stories, truley touching
9:55 PM
Wow I really never knew things were this bad. I never would have expected this type of thing to happen so severely.
11:04 PM
Did anyone else think the POW's head looked a lot like Abraham Lincoln's? Just a random observation.
Also, I can't believe a national cemetery was given as private property and used for cotton growing. Have these people no respect for the dead?
6:45 AM
I guess i never really thought about the fact that the Civil War would have had POW camps. that POW looks pretty bad. and i have to agree with carsh he looked a little bit like Lincoln
2:41 PM
I read about some of this stuf while doing my IA. It was horrifying, some of the things that happened during the war.
4:39 PM
How is he still alive?
6:15 PM
Can you really define that as alive? That doesn't look like he possibly could be...
8:22 PM
That is horrible. It must of been terrible to be so crowded. I feel bad about the prisoners in the camp.
7:34 PM
i dont undersand why the camp was build in georga for fresh water supply when they didnt get it. and the picture of the skinny guy is indeed graphic in nature, you can see his pelvic bone!!! i didnt think it was possable to get that skinny. its strange that this isnt discussed as a major thing like with what hittler did to jewish people.
6:25 PM
I am astonished at thit picture!
I'm not quite sure which is worse, hearing about the drinking water or seeing this picture.
11:14 PM
