A Classic

I've been to Athens, GA several times. Great college town that gave rise to many great bands from the 1980s, R.E.M. being one of them. A friend and I actually saw Michael Stipe in an Athens coffee shop and tried to follow him. He disappeared like a ninja and we never saw him again.

So far my neighborhood has gotten off pretty easy with the weather, so to speak.

We only got a very light bit of freezing rain early Sunday morning, which was quickly covered up by even more snow!

The weather report originally said there was going to be freezing rain early this morning, but they later revised it to say more snow :P

Oh, and it's snowing right now.

I haven't gone outside since Saturday, so I have no clue how deep it is. Wouldn't be surprised if it's close to a foot <_<

Casey,

I can guarantee that it's at least a foot of snow out there. Ugh. I'm really sick of winter.

I strongly suspect that it's the end of the world. Or else just a strange weather cycle we all need to stop complaining about...

Unrelated question: Have you ever visited the UVA campus by any chance?

I made it up to Charlottesville once. Very cool campus and a pretty nice college town. It's also close to D.C.

UVA is a top-notch public university. Harvard of the South. TJ also designed a lot of its architecture.

I thought Vanderbilt was considered the Harvard of the South?
Yeah with a 35% acceptance rate, I'd say that's pretty selective for a public university.

Also, have you heard of Davidson College in North Carolina? I learned about them when reps from Hopkins, Swarthmore, Wesleyan, and Davidson all came to Portland a couple months ago.

The solstice was yesterday! I celebrated by following my normal Winter Break routine.

We hav a weird weather situation up on Bull Mountain. Ice froze over one layer of snow, then more snow fell. So we have a snow-ice-snow layer over here, and it's kind of hard to walk in it.

Also, I helped my dad by flattening the snow on the street with my sled so that he could make it out of the driveway. All in a day's work!

Duke is also called the Harvard of the South.

Davidson is a solid school. Very expensive as it is private I believe. However, I could be wrong on that. It's in Charlotte which is not the best city by any means.

UNC-Chapel Hill is a solid public university.
