Wow. This is actually really good. At first, I thought it was completely stupid, but it hits on a lot of key points in the history of America regarding slaves. The Northern States wanted to Abolish Slavery, and South didn't. I really like how it uses a contemporary form of music to educate people on the Missouri Compromise.
Opportunity comes once in a lifetime. I thoroughly enjoyed this rap. The medium of sock puppets has a future.
A controversial ramification of the abolition of slavery is that in the end it was cheaper to not have slaves. Because slaves had been property, they had to be cared for, housed, fed, etc. and had more rights than Indians. With the advent of mass production factories with hordes of people vying for jobs, no one's living costs were a viable factor in wages.
I'm not saying slavery isn't horrible. I'm saying it was probably a lot worse for many of the city dwellers. Though it was the principle behind emancipation which was so revolutionary.
Music is always a good way to remember/learn something and this definitely proves it. props to whoever made the video even though i'm pretty sure they'll never read this...=p
there's a different song that isn't really related to anything at all that we've learned in this unit but it's pretty good. I Can by Nas. The only thing that we've learned this year in the song is:
"Africa was almost robbed naked Slavery was money, so they began making slave ships"
It's more like a motivational song for kids just with some historical details.
