The Future of the Internet is at Stake

Keep in mind that this video is very one sided, however, do some more research on your own if you're interested in this issue.

I agree with this heavily biased video... like as long as someone isn't directly making moolah off of a copyrighted image/ song/ other material, then it should be fine for people to express themselves with this material

Okay, if youtube, facebook, and wikepedia were ever shut down, America would definatley freak out. Most of us use these sites on a daily basis. Videos, music, and social networking are so enmeshed in almost every American's lives, like slavery was to the South. I can definatley understand if someone is pirating music, videos, and information to sell, then the original owner has every right to be upset.

I completely agree that this bill shold be stoped, i mean these corporations already have ways of sueing and stuf, this would just be giving these maga corporations more unnecessary power. And now i'm officially singed up against this bill!

Ridiculous! I don’t like this IP/SOPA proposal at all. Any ways like Mr. Carlisle said that they will never be able to completely block it anyways. Also I agree with Juliet, America would freak out if facebook, youtube, and wikepedia got shut down. America was just freaking out because wikepedia is blacked out for 24 hours. Without people being able to express themselves freely online is going to lead to mayhem if IP/SOPA passes.

I believe SOPA and PIPA violate the First Amendment. We would be using the same censorship as nations like China, Iran and North Korea. I thought America was land of the free and all about protecting every citizen's rights under the Amendments. If SOPA passes, Carlisle could get sued for this blog. I think it's just an excuse for big corporations to get richer. I strongly oppose SOPA/PIPA.

I don't think the bills will get past, or at least I hope they don't because first of all they're not very effective on stopping piracy which would be the main goal. Other than that, the censureship would be extremely troublesome, and I can't believe a someone would go as far as to sue/ try to get a video taken down that has a certain song playing in the background. The entertainment industry is surely still making a lot of money and I don't think they need to go pinching pennies by cracking down on the internet.

I agree with Haylee, I don't think this bill has a good chance at passing. So many people would be outraged if their websites got shut down. People will find ways to get the information they want- all this will do is cause chaos. I think there are better ways to go about stopping pirating. But things like music and all are art forms that should be able to be shared and linked. A lot of the big stars in Hollywood now owe their success to places like Youtube.

I don't think the internet should be censored. It doesn't really belong to a single person, it belongs to all of us. Censorship of media is never a good thing. It kills free thought and cripples creativity. If IP/SOPA is passed, it will give big corporations and the government even more power to make more regulations in the future.

I don't get why people are freaking out so much about this if Obama said he would veto it anyway. Could congress try and pass it again if it already got vetoed once?

Oh, here's the link to my civil war POW camp video. It's not on andersonville like I thought, but just on POW camps in general. Enjoy the hilarty of 8th grade me, Adria, and my neighbors.

The PIPA would not be easily enforced. Someone who knows the internet well enough would be able to easily find a hole to worm through. Trying to completely stop pirating would take too much effort and resources.
Also, the bill gives way too much power to entertainment corporations. Social media and media sharing sites would be so easily taken down, and we would have to trust these corporations not to abuse this bill.

WOW. Um.... That's just great. I feel like people rely too much on the Internet these days. Why not just enjoy good, old-fashioned post? Especially international. :)

This will cause total chaos if this law is passed. I understand that the members of Congress are trying to do the right thing by stopping piracy and all of that, but trying to change and take away peoples ability to post is just tedious work.

I think this bill would probably work if implemented. The majority of people who currently accesses copyrighted material online probably wont go through the trouble of finding loopholes. I mean, only one person I know actually uses a proxy to get around the Facebook ban at school (I can neither conform nor deny whether that is a true story). But ultimately, I agree that the whole shutting down of websites that host copyrighted material is a little harsh/impractical for businesses.

Imagine how interesting our internet would be if something like OPEN Act was enacted (and enforced)? Internet activity would actually be held to the same standard as "normal" activity. Is the underlying reason we don't like SOPA/PIPA is because it would actually prevent illegal activities?
