Well, this makes me awfully glad I don't eat school lunch. I would hope that TTSD chooses not to include the playdough-beef on their menu, because I don't believe that kids should eat dog food. That practice is generally frowned upon, I believe.

So I went to the IB science thing yesterday (wish it was a actual fair thing)and one group wanted to have composed bin and trash cans in the cafeteria (logical) but also considered donating leftover food to a homeless charity. However the food was rejected on the bases "it didn't meet standers". On a side note I think we should implement there idea and have larger science improvement fairs.

I understand that the company would want to use as much meat as possible for profiting reasons and to not be wasteful but if something has to be treated that much it does not seem like it could be good for you, especially with the name pink slime. Also, if some of the people working for BPI do not support the process, I wouldn't either. TTSD should keep this off their menu, especially if they are trying to serve healthier options. Another option would be to serve less meat altogether!

Pink slime does not seem like beef to me....It seems more like pure fat than pure beef to me.
1:22 PM
Unfortunately, it's the poorest in America that have to deal most with this 'pink slime'. Ever wonder why the poorest states have the fattest kids? It's because of this stuff in general

As Upton Sinclair, I find that there has been many positive steps to improving meat standards in the USA. However, I do not agree with not telling consumers that they are being sold short by including this un-nutritious "pink slime" and should, at the very least, be included in the nutrition facts.

Makes me really thankful that my dad goes hunting and makes uses his own meat instead of questionable pink slime beef....BLEH

"What are you asking me to put on the label, its beef, it's on the label, it's a beef product, it's says beef so we are declaring … it's beef" Favorite defense ever! But I have to wonder what they do with the heads... Is there a market for that? Or do they just throw it in the slime?

Upton Sinclair is probably spinning like a lathe in his grave. I wonder if Burgerville uses pink slime.
1:11 PM
Not just Burgerville, how many other fast food places and restaurants use pink slime? Organic food's the way to go.
4:59 PM
Thats only slightly disgusting, I hope the school districts won't use it but I think they probably will because it seems like there always on a budget cut.
11:17 AM
I don't see why everyone's complaining, they said that the pink slime is "Just beef" and that it's "nutritious"! What's not to love?
But no, really, that's gross. I think Thomas has a good question too
1:07 PM
This is really disgusting. I knew I didn't eat school lunch for a reason and this is it. How can you say that it's just beef, when it's not? All meat should be 100% meat and not a mixture of other things with some real meat.
3:27 PM
Probably a large majority of America has eaten pink slime due to our food regulations and it's rather sad. It's scary that food labels do not warn us about this in our food content, and so the public is unsure about ground beef. Not everybody can shop at Costco. :(
4:31 PM
This really makes you question what you really do eat... especially when it comes from Tigard's cafeteria...

How chicken nuggets are made:
"Because it's crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color"

All I have to say as a representative of Fred Meyer, is that Fred Meyer proudly does not harbor Pink Slime within our meat products. Please come by some time, you'll find it at Fred Meyer.
Lol but really, that's pretty gross and I feel they should have like a little sticker thingy or something of that sort to alert those that are wary about the "pink slime".
1:12 AM
This makes me disgusted, sort of scrared to eat meat now..
6:16 AM
I agree with Haylee: if we don't make an effort to improve the quality of meat that our school purchases, we should just take a vegetarian route. Though I wonder how that would compare price-wise.
