This is crazy.... US is a democracy, huh? America stands for liberty and justice for all, huh? Oh? Liberty and justice for all US CITIZENS. I see. Makes perfect sense. It's okay to torture POWs with this sort of thing, but it's not okay when other countries do it. That makes perfect sense. Good job, US government.
That's really interesting. I guess I like Thomas I've never thought of music bein used as psychological torture. I also think it's interesting that the army blasts music from their tanks and stuff for the same reason.
It's certainly a unique way of making people talk. It's so interesting because I can see how someone would go crazy listening to the same music for hours and hours. I would personally go crazy. I think the implications of this are a lot more scarier. Music is a source of entertainment, so wouldn't it be reasonably possible to use other sources of entertainment for torture? Like television?
Thanks for showing us this in class and posting it, it's really interesting. I like how Christopher wanted to experience music torture and how he explained how after only a few minutes he was unable to think rationally and thought like a prisoner would have. I don't think I would have thought of noise and music as torture before this because it just wouldn't have occurred to me as something they do to torture people.
So then is the average parent who is subjected to their child watching seasame street everyday considered a torture victim? I think I found a cause I truly care for- thank you Carlisle for inspiring me for a purpose in life!
I'd be willing to subject myself to solitary in a shipping container with nothing but that awful Johnny Cash/Metal Music mash-up. I think it would be interesting to see how long it would take before you break. Music is one of the more ingenious ways to torture people that I have seen. The concept behind it is crazy
It's really interesting to see the psychological affects music can have. I would like to see a study on the affects of specific genres, it'd be interesting for sure.
I would have gone nuts if music was played during test finials. But in war zone I have heard story's about helicopters and such playing music, it not only confuses the enemy but can lift soldiers spirits. I believe there is a difference in what one can do in a combat zone vs a prison though.
I never thought that music can be used as torture! that is crazy, but a smart idea. the way they used the wandering soul music to try to win the war is insane!
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

I would have never have guessed the government would use music for torture. You can't make this stuff up.

Time to freak out some people by playing the sesame street song.
It will now drive me crazy as it still wanders in my head.....
