"I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”
-Elie Wiesel

I've read Elie Wiesel's autobiography "Night" multiple times in which he talks about his life during the Holocaust. He starts out as a very religious teenager who studies the Talmud (Jewish Bible) night and day to a prisoner in multiple concentration camps now questioning his faith in God. He spares no details and he describes everything he saw with amazing details. It breaks my heart knowing many of the prisoners in the concentration camps did not know they would end up being there; they were all just normal civilians and the unexpected happened ...

I've never really thought about how neutrality helps the oppressors. That quote changes me outlooks regarding some battles. Thanks for sharing it.

I've heard of that book Linh, it seems really interesting, especially since I've never read an autobiography of a holocaust survivor. Was this a prison camp or death camp and where was it? I wish I knew more about the different camps and ghettos rather than just the really well known ones like Auschwitz.

I have also read that book Linh, it was heartbreaking, but you could really tell how honest he was. This is such a great quote, it definitely means more coming from someone who has really been through extreme torment.
