Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple

This is an amazing documentary. I show it in my Psych class when we cover Social Psych.

yeah I remember that video, its really creepy that somebody would ask people to kill themselves and that they would actually do it. Jim Jones was one messed up person. its so sad, especially when people were killing their children. I totally cannot understand why anyone would do that. =(

I listened to the enitre audio clip of Jones when he was trying to get people to kill themselves. He actually said "life is pointless" and you could hear eveyone in the background praising him.

Jason,

That clip really shows how far gone Jones really was. 904 people chose death over life that day.

CAT,

I know this stuff is disturbing but you need to know about it. Wait until we get lynching in the South following the Civil War. That's incredibly disturbing.

yea it is but I do find it interesting..do you have reasons why jim was like that? pschy wise? do you ever explain that? I listen to the recording and he talks to the Afro-am like he's one of them and says "most that left were white..they take away our homes.."
I don't get it..did they bu8ild up to trusting him so much?

Jim Jones was a very interesting man. He grew up in Indiana and had a very strange upbrining to say the least. Long story short, he was a psychopath and narcissist. Look those terms up.

Yes, he does sound like a preacher in an all-black church. He was incredibly charismatic and a great speaker. He had a magnetic personality that drew people into him.

If you don't get sick of me or my teaching you should take my Psych class. It's offered next semester fourth period only and it's an A/B class. It's good to get a taste of Psych if you aren't sure about IB Psych. That class takes no prisoners and can kick your butt if you let it.
