Carlisle, by page 390, do you mean start on "The Election of 1856 and Dred Scott"? Because usually we start at blue sections, which is on page 391.

That's too bad. I think the McPherson book is one of the most readable history books out there. I know it's dense in some parts, but I like it. More textbook reading is on the way.

I have a really good, but depressing reading from a great book on the Jim Crow South lined up for future reading.
