Thanks Carlisle! I am tired of being an Italian! I am ready to finally become a U.S.-er.

haha Caro

Interesting stuff...
I think they should make it more attainable to get citizenship. They should also enforce boarder patrol and the employers taking advantage of the illegal immigrants. But we’re in such a cycle now that it’s hard to break I guess. I was talking to a friend from Canada who has been here for about 3 years and he was saying how much more he still needs to do in order to become a citizen it was crazy.

But anyways are you going to come to state/any pre-state dance competitions? We’re competing tomorrow at Sherwood! Well, I’m not because I’m still not allowed to dance… it sucks. But you should definitely come see us, the routine is really cool this year.

Mr. Carlisle,
Along the lines of what we were talking about yesterday in regards to the environment, I think that the new tax that the Irish implemented on plastic bags is a great idea honestly. I see no benefit of plastic bags.

Oh, and Mitt Romney employs illegals at his house despite being vehemently opposed to illegal immigration.

Just thought I'd throw that in...

Regarding the test, it's so hard, and ridiculously arbitrary, I bet 75% of American citizens couldn't pass it.

Here's some sample questions.

Haglund,

We are planning on coming out. Can't make it out to the 'Wood tomorrow. Good luck!

You can see what the form for naturalization looks like here:

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/N-400.pdf

Keep in mind that this is one of the LAST things you need to do, among living in the US for years, filling out forms to prove you won't be a burden on the United States, and going back to the country from which you are leaving to be interviewed.

Thanks for the info Nicole. Every year I always wish I could get an immigration attorney in to speak to my classes. Perhaps Father Bernath would be willing to do that for me next year?

That doesn't sound that hard. Sure, it takes quite a few years, but I don't think any of the requirements or tests are unreasonable. It would be a good idea to not make it take so long though.

I was reading the form Nicole posted, and I got to the part about eye color. Who has pink or maroon eyes??

A thought just came to me:

If the government is so uptight about national security, why do they require immigrants to know the order in which people must die in order to successfully decapitate the US government?

Also, for the "oath to the US" thing, that is unreasonable when many American citizens would refuse to do such a thing.

I think the oath is just there so they are "sure" that the immigrant really wants to live here and likes the U.S. I think the oath requirement is kind of dumb, not because so many Americans wouldn't do it, but because anyone could lie about it.

The eye color question is for the immigrants from other galaxies. I hear the US gov't is really starting to crack down on immigrants from Rogulon 6.A.

Honestly, it is a ridiculous process. There are pretty long waiting periods between sending in forms, because the government has to approve a step before you can move on to the next one. Sometimes it can take 6 months to a year between forms.

Carlisle, I'll ask my dad and see if he'll be willing. :)

How about albinos, Charlotte? :D

Thanks again for your insights on this issue Nicole. Again, I would just like your dad's contact information so I could possibly use him for next year.
