Yeah, because I'm in a somewhat reflective/deep-thought mood, I'm going to post something that's probably going to end up being fairly long here.
I've been watching the news a lot, and I keep seeing things about how this country keeps declining. And honestly, it makes me sad. 20 years ago this was easily the richest and greatest nation in the world; 20 years later, we have no money, we can't afford gas, it's impossible to travel, our dollar is worthless, we don't even know if our food is safe, there's fewer jobs every month, we're in a war with no point, and we have a President, who, whatever his true feelings towards the American people, has done little for them in 8 years, and with every speech he gives seems more and more out of touch.
In all fairness to the President, he has tried a few times, once with No Child Left Behind, which, while a failed law, did have good intentions, and again with the stimulus package.
To think that 20 years ago this was the greatest nation and now we're facing one of the hardest downturns in a long while, it's truly saddening to comprehend.
Even worse, we don't care about our veterans. We say we give our highest respect and honors to them, and yet we turn them away when they ask for help, they make up a large portion of the homeless. The homeless, these people gave their lives, and we can't even give them a place to live, or food to eat.
Our tax system is set up to bleed the middle-class as much as possible. Tax cut are given to the richest, while the middle class pay more than those who make 20X more. The Alternative Minimum Tax even has a cap, you make more than that cap, you don't have to pay those higher taxes.
Truly I love this country, and it pains me so much to see it falling so far, in so short a time.
I have a question about the picture thing again. Yesterday I got a picture of the person I interviewed. It was printed out on printer paper. Would I just write an analysis of the picture out by hand in this case? There is enough space above the picture to do this. By the way Casey has some good points.
Wow! You've got quite a diatribe going there. I'm sure there's a lot of Americans that share your frustrations and concerns. I'm at a loss as to how to respond to your post. I think your generation has a lot of work ahead of it if it wants to truly change the direction of this country.
Geez Casey... I expected more from you, you sound like some unpatriotic rat! If you don't like America then leave, no one wants you here if you are gonna talk such crap about the greatest nation in the world! You need to overlook the facts and embrace blind nationalism Casey!!
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.
