Your "firday" night? Never heard of it.

Sorry, I had to.

Anyway, I am looking forward to this debate. I just heard on the news that they're not expecting Obama and McCain to go after each other much. :(
However, it should still be pretty cool.

That debate was awesome! They really stuck to the issues!

I don't agree with McCain's energy policy, and I also don't agree with his dismissal of Obama's points as being inexperienced. Did you see him laughing while Obama was talking? Not good. All McCain talked about was that and his war experiences. He was beating a dead horse into the dirt.

However, Obama made his mistakes, too. He addressed President Bush as McCain's president. Like it or not, Bush is his president, too, and disowning him is not going to help. He accused McCain of doing things that weren't his fault, like being wrong about the war. It wasn't McCain's fault.

Anyway, if I went on, this could take a while. This was a good debate overall, and I'm looking forward to the next one (VP's)!

I thought the debate was really interesting. McCain's multiple war stories became rather repetitive and useless. He made his point about experience, yet danced around the actual issues a lot of the time. Obama also had some fallacious arguments. I didn't understand how both were calling for tax cuts, when the country is in such a crisis! Tax cuts are a long way off in my opinion.

I told you this in class, didn't I Carlisle? About McCain using his war experience too much. Haha. You dismissed it.

Dorks. :D
It was an interesting debate. I felt like I understood what they were saying, but couldn't connect that well. I need to work on that.

I thought the debate was boring. Same stuff I hear over and over again (well, that's expected), wavering from the question occurred often enough to annoy me. I found it really hard to measure stuff objectively because I already had a preference to one side.

Issues like FP are hard for me to measure objectively (as well as anyone else who already has a certain mindset) so I can't really say who won on that w/o revealing my political preference. That being said, I believe that Obama did better on the econ issues and both candidates did OKAY answering the issue of lessening our dependence on foreign oil. However, I thought that Obama did not do a very good job with the last question (Natl. Security post-9/11) though.

Updated Electoral Map

Changes from yesterday:

Florida to Toss-up (previously Lean GOP; -27 votes to McCain)
Mississippi to Likely GOP (previously Safe GOP)

Nothing big today, except for McCain losing Florida back to Toss-ups.

Saw the debate today, was pretty clean, and I liked that.

I was surprised McCain waited until the very end to say he was a POW, though.

I think Obama did better on the economy section, but McCain made up some ground on foreign policy.

It wasn't too bad of a debate, but really they said almost exactly what I expected they would and it got a little boring after a while. I really don't think either candidate "won" (some people may disagree). I am almost surprised that McCain didn't talk more being a POW and a veteran and that Obama did not attack McCain more about tax cuts for the wealthy and loopholes for big business. I am definitely looking foward to the Palin-Biden debate though.

I personally didn't really enjoy this particular debate. I thought at times it was pretty good but at times it was boring. And I thought it was annoying how they wouldn't answer the questions but answer with the opposite or something else. I wanted to see them attack each other more...I guess they did towards the end but the beginning wasn't catching. I guess it is how debates are...but it was also annoying how they talked over each other not letting the other one talk.

Ugh this was almost unbearable. They most certainly did NOT stick to the questions. There were a couple times where I think the question was completely ignored. "What will be compromised to get us out of the financial crisis?" Obama: "Well here's all the things we can't sacrifice. They just used the questioners prompts as a spring board to get their agenda out. Mucho painful. But I do admit that I learned a schload of stuff.
Oh well, I had an interesting conversation with my parents.

Reading other comments just makes me more passionate in my vehemence. As stated earlier, it was very repetitious and was very predictable. The attacks were a little more tame than normal but still annoyed me. It reminded me of my little brothers bickering. I was surprised at how much contradiction there was about things that should be considered fact, such as if a person did or did not say a certain thing. For all the talk of tax cut (which I was pursuaded to believe is a good thing), they really nickle and dimed minute details and how things could be interpreted. A lot of argue about definitions of things and a TON of justification as well, which I thought was a little low of both of the candidates. Okay, I'm done. Promise.

Uh, okay I sounded really negative/angry in my last comment.

Let me balance it out..
How about: I love Presidential debates. I love Obama and McCain equally. I love kitties and puppies and sunshine.

How many times did they say "fundamental" in the first half of the debate? Holy goodness!

I thought the debate was good, though. I've never watched one of those before, and they're actually not mind-wrenching like I thought they would be. For the most part, I was able to understand what the candidates thought. I think McCain needed some time to warm up tonight, though. He started off the debate answering the question "Will you vote for this financial...blah blah whatever." by saying "Yeah, sure, but anyways...", which I thought didn't look very good. He got into it as the debate went on, though, thank goodness. And I see what Carlisle meant by Obama being a better speaker, but McCain a better debater. Obama was really good at directly answering the moderator's questions, but if McCain gave a rebuttal, then Obama kind of stumbled. McCain, however, was always on his toes and he most often had a quick response. I also learned that McCain really really likes the idea of cutting spending, and Obama is obsessed with alternative energy; stuff I didn't really know before. I thought it was a good debate, overall!

My two favorite made up words of the night:

"firday" and "repetitious"

Glad you all watched the debate. I was falling asleep by the end of it. The next two debates will focus more on domestic policies. Didn't notice any memorable one-liners or snappy come backs from either candidate tonight.

Keep posting your thoughts.

Updated Electoral Map

Changes from yesterday:

Indiana to Toss-up (previously Lean GOP; -11 votes McCain)
Mississippi to Safe GOP (previously Likely GOP)
Nevada to Lean Dem (previously Toss-up; +5 votes Obama)
New Hampshire to Lean Dem (previously Toss-up; +4 votes Obama)
Pennsylvania to Likely Dem (previously Lean Dem)
South Dakota to Likely GOP (previously Safe GOP)
Virginia to Likely Dem (previously Lean Dem)

Some big pick-ups for Obama, taking Nevada and New Hampshire out of the Toss-up bin, adding 9 votes to his total. McCain also lost Indiana to Toss-up-itis and dropped under the 200 vote mark.

The entire presidential debate is on YouTube. C-SPAN put it up, so I bet they'll put all the debates online.

The debate was good, it went fast! Before i knew it it was over! As Jim said, I didn't catch his last name, but it was scheduled for 90 minutes and it went 97. I think they could beat around the bush for hours. I didn't like how they didn't give a direct answer to a lot of the questions though. Like is russia an friend, threat, ect. they just talked about Russia for a little while, and then went into their own plans and agenda for the US when they're president. They should have given a better answer to the prompt, and then opposed each other and gone into their own agendas. They went on for 10-15 minutes a peice instead of 5 for each prompt because they got involved with their own schemes. Also, I didn't like how Obama kept saying, "That's not true," before McCain had even finished speaking! He's like that's not true, that's not true, he should have just waited until it was his turn, and then cleared up the matter and said he didn't THINK it was true. He baisically kept calling McCain a liar...

Updated Electoral Map

Mississippi to Likely GOP (previously Safe GOP)

Obviously nothing huge today, but the clock is ticking down now. Every day that McCain doesn't chip away at Obama's lead makes it that much more likely Obama will be President.

Also, something new:

Senate Map

This map will track the progress of the 33 Senate races going on. The middle line is 51 seat majority, the line to the right is the 60 seat (filibuster-proof) mark.

This will be updated much less frequently than the Electoral Map, but it's interesting nonetheless.

The debate went by fairly quick. They didn't answer the questions directly sometimes. They rambled on. Like in one of the questions, Obama went on to talk about Spain. This makes no sense. Overall...not to bad. Hello Sarah Palin vs Joe Biden debate!!!

i watched the debate yesterday beacuse i tivoed it. I thought both did pretty well, but Obama clearly had better responses. McCain looked flustered at times and at one point looked like he wanted to strangle Obama.

It seemed to me that everything Obama said was almost like an attack or response to McCain. That was also pretty funny when Obama was talking about Pakistan and attcking it. McCain was like "You dont say out loud that are planning to attck them...you just dont do that" Good debate. That was the first time i had heard a lot of the policies of both senators. Interesting.
