Moving On

Well, we're half way through with the school year as of today. Of course that's not counting the snow days we'll be making up in July. I hope everyone had a good semester and comes back ready for more learnin' next semester. Grades should be up on eSIS by tomorrow morning.

Have a great three day weekend.

Mitchell,

Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate them. You are one of the best students I've encountered at THS. I would be honored to write you a letter of rec next year. Don't be a stranger.

I really excited for next semester:)
You are a great teacher, one of the coolest ones I've had at Tigard High. Like I've said before, you actually make it fun for us to learn, and I'm never bored in class. Blame the other classes for making me tired all the time!

And, hopefully we won't have school in July, since i I DO NOT want to celebrate my birthday on a day we have school.

I'm sad that psychology is over. It was my favorite class. Thanks for all that you did and helping me with my outlines it helped a lot with history and psych. But I'm excited for this semester in history!! I'm going to participate more this semester. That was funny we saw you after school yesterday. I was sitting in the back seat of Rebekahs car. I'm not sure if you saw me. Have a good weekend.

Carlisle,
although I didn't talk very much in your class, I really enjoyed it. It was entertaining. I'm glad I am able to come back. I will try to talk more than what I did first semester. Thanks for being a great teacher. See you monday and have a good weekend.

Aww. This is such a cute moment.

But seriously, Carlisle. You are one of the best teachers I've had, and the best history teacher I've had the pleasure of being taught by. And I've had a lot of really good history teachers.

You make this relevant for us and show us how this is relevant to our world today.

Thank you. I appreciate all you've done. I'm really excited to be in your class when we get to the stuff I am really interested by. (The more modern stuff)

Thanks Carlisle.
I'll participate more this semester. :D

So many sweet, thoughtful comments.
Unfortunately, I have a heart of stone and am thus physically unable to say/type/communicate nice things.

However, I must say Mr Carlisle I do enjoy seeing you wear the same set of collared shirts and slacks everyday and hearing/watching/experiencing you yelling excitedly about history.

And your horrible peanuts and poop joke. My god you'll never live that one down.

:)

Allie,

You are too kind. I'm curious, why do you find women's rights lame?

Narintohn,

You can't even say hello when I poke my head in Caro's room. Buying clothes is an incredibly low priority for me. Bike parts and food are the tops.

As they should be, Mr. Carlisle. Spending a lot money on clothes is ridiculous.

It's just...I guess the sour taste in my mouth comes from the women who promote it to the extreme. I find it extremely overdone. Like the PETA activists. I don't like how women are so "proud" and find men such pigs that they will blow up on a guy who opens a door for them.

I don't like how now women are seen as such "oppressed things" and now we have to be powerful and absolutely independent! Women are not better than men. What happened to equality?

Really, women can be just as bad as the men they accuse. It's ridiculous.

No, no I get it. I don't spend a lot of money on clothes either...as you can probably tell

I'm sorry! :[

I could've sworn I posted a comment on here last night. :[ Grr.

Well I am very excited for another semester of history. If I had to choose a class to have EVERYDAY FOR THE WHOLE YEAR, it'd be history. It's not so hard that I go home and cry over how hard I need to study to get an A [that's biology] but it really challenges me and pushes me to think. I don't know if you could tell by the number of fantastic kittens above me, but you really are a great teacher. You're too hard on yourself, I think. You have this impression that half of your students find something wrong with you or your class. We don't! It made me laugh when you told us "I'm not funny." the other day. Are you freaking kidding me?! You're hilarious! I love the 10 minute conversations we have prior to class about either yet another political scandal or what you had for dinner that night. It's kind of a community feeling, I suppose, in that class. It better be, since we're stuck with each other for a while longer. :D We still need to have our Lost conversation. I stopped by that day I said I would and I didn't see you. All is well, we will have it soon enough.

There, I thought I'd make my contribution in the "warm fuzzies" box. :]

Oh and Allie--
I guess after being discriminated and dominated by males for so long, many women feel the need to embrace their new-found 'independence', so to speak, from their male-counterparts. Yes, a few women take it a little far, but I don't think that women's rights is overdone.

Okay, now I'm starting to blush. I had no idea this innocent blog post about next semester would turn into this. I appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks Alex!!

I just want the classroom experience to be engaging and intellectually challenging. I get frustrated when I see students intellectually checked out. That's what I take personally. I always wanted to speak out in classes during my days a student and I want to give that same opportunity to my students. That's why "shy" students frustrate me a little. If you are shy, speak up and move out of your comfort zone. That's what life is all about.

Okay, thanks again Alex and yes, let's have that Lost conversation some time soon.

Of course!

And Unforgiven looks great, I will have to go rent that soon! I noticed it has Morgan Freeman in it, too. Are you a fan of his? All of the movies I've seen in your class have had him in it. :D

As long as everyone else is giving positive feedback/support, I should probably mention that history happens to be my favorite class...even if it seems like I'm not always interested. Just because my head is always propped up doesn't mean I'm bored :]

Final grades have already been sent to counseling so I don't think/hope anyone is angling for a higher grade. ;)

I really don't care about the Super Bowl. I care about the new episode of The Office that follows the game and Wipeout on ABC during half-time.
