I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

I really try to refrain from using "ghetto" to describe stuff. It has slipped a couple times, but it's true--most anything we describe as ghetto really isn't! It's like calling someone "retarded". Our generation tends to take words that we really don't completely understand the true meaning of and try to incorporate them into our daily language.

i dont think i have ever used the term ghetto just because i really had no idea what it meant. the transcript was interesting though, i with i could have listened to it. i feel like more of it would stick then

They describe some pretty terrible stories about their parents dying and suffering from psychological problems. They also mention the rampant gang and drug activity that goes on in their neighborhood. It's amazing how he continues to play his Super Nintendo with his friend even though there is a shooting going on outside, it shows how used to it he is. I also found it interesting how he knew all those gun and alcohol names. It is good to know that the two of them have a positive attitude about their life and joke around with each other even though most of the people around them have given up on their own lives.
