I don't think this question is for psych students but here is my answer anyways.
I wouldn't mind reciting it either and I am fine with displaying the flag but some religions cannot say the pledge because it is against their beliefs.

I wouldnt mind saying the pledge of allegiance in classrooms everyday because for me its showing respect for our country. But I also think that it's not okay to make people say the pledge "under God" because everyone has different beliefs.
Well we used to say the pledge of allegiance every day in elementary school, and it didn't really bother me then. I do remember however that I got really tired of doing it EVERY day after a while and started goofing off instead... so I suppose I wouldn't mind if they made it mandatory now, but if they did I don't think everyone would show the respect towards it that they are expecting.
I really don't understand why some schools are against saying the pledge of allegiance; the article doesn't give any explanation of that. I wouldn't mind it! We are Americans. In American schools. I think it's okay to pledge allegiance to the American flag and show some pride, ya feel me?
At my old school we would say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning during the daily announcements and I didn't mind it at all. I think we should make it mandatory in all classrooms because (like what Katie said)it shows respect for the country we have the opportunity to live in. But making it mandatory is kind of pointless because there should be meaning when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Also agreeing with Katie, the "under God" part may be difficult to say since there are atheists/non-Christians in the country but they should learn to deal with it because the Pledge is what it is.
Reciting the pledge of allegiance wouldn't be a hassle; it's patriotic. However, the "under God" part might cause some tension due to different beliefs and religions being present in the school. There will definitely be people refusing to pledge allegiance because of their beliefs, so I don't think enforcing the pledge will make much of a difference.
we used to do in elementary school. I don't see why we stopped it. I would like to be able to recite it again with the class at the beginning of the day
While it's ridiculous that a publicly funded school wants to fly some "world flag" instead of the national flag (at least acknowledge that you're in America for Pete's sake; don't pretend like you are all high and enlightened and aware of world issues), shoving words down people's throats isn't going to make them any more patriotic. Maybe once a week, but daily becomes empty words. This is a waste of time that could be used for solving actual issues and reeks of statism. Is "patriotism" mandatory now?
At my old school, we recited it every morning, every day, in every grade. I feel like it is respectful and patriotic. However it bothers me that people disagree with saying "..under God..". I mean its OUR PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE, not a testimony of your religion. Our country was based on faith in God--it's even printed on our currency. Are we supposed to stop using our own money because it says "Trust in God" due to the fact that "everyone has different beliefs?" Not trying to start an argument, just trying to make a point.
I think we should say the pledge of allegiance everyday. It reminds us of how blessed we are to live in the USA. To even get the opportunity of a high school education.
I'm a native South Carolinian and I attained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. I taught fourth grade for two years in the Mississippi Delta and two years at an alternative high school in Western North Carolina. I have been at Tigard High School since the fall of 2003, where I teach U.S. History and Psychology.

I really wouldn't mind reciting the pledge of allegiance everyday. After all, it only takes a minute out of our day and it's patriotic.
