I really liked this reading, possibly because i actually read it. But i felt that it was a good reminder that apparently none of us are all that great. I share (generally) the same beliefs with them "pure" folk. But the only one i really liked and agreed with was Anne Hutchinson, who i feel broke down many of the walls which the church had built up to block out the "bad ones", begging us to ask what is "bad". On that note whats good and how could a person possibly do enough of it to earn God's favor? I dont know, I guess I was just moved by this. The whole reading just answered any questions I have had like "why do so many people get pissed off when I bring up church or religion?" Honestly I cant blame anyone who would. Sorry i wrote a novel!

Hey Carlisle! Loving your class so far. I HATED history last year, it just goes to show that the teacher really changes everything.

So I figured that if I was going to be all over this thing blogging everywhere, I might as well make my own account. Now you'll never have to wonder ever again if you're getting the REAL Alex. Arncha proud? (I don't think I'll be using my blog to account of my own life. All these personalization options are overwhelming me ]-:< )

PS- I was wondering if there was like a time limit on how late you can blog something. Usually I'm busy till pretty late at night and I'm always worrying about if anything I say will count.

PSPS- Did I mention that I've been to Jamestown? I went there during Spring of '07! It was so much fun, I spent an entire day there, and it's all in really good condition. You can go in the church and everything, they even had an archaeological dig going on while I was there. You could go the the museum off the side of the town and see all the things they found, even some of the original coins! I learned so much. I thought it was cool because they had a little obelisk that looked stunningly like the Washington Monument in DC. (I been there too [same vacation- the Smithsonian is also incredible).

I see the danger coming from the theocratic system of government in place. The ability of a religion to influence nonmembers through law has huge effects on the progression of political ideas. I feel that the Puritan religion is as justified a religion as any but that its ties with the state generated the stagnant political environment we saw in Salem and other towns.

PSPSPS- I also picked up on a very VERY small reference in some earlier reading to the Peublan people of the mid South.

I'VE BEEN THERE TOO! This summer I went to Mesa Verde, over in the 4 corners area (mostly southern Utah and also some white water rafting adventures in Colorado), and walked around in all the cliff dwellings. It's so cool that after all these years it's still so preserved, and they just let you walk around where they Anasazis would have. It's crazy that people would move to caves carved right into the faces of cliffs just to be protected from other tribes and the weather, especially when they get so little water as it is. Anyway... I get excited about all this and tend to go on... It was one of my coolest experiences EVER- again I learned a plethora. The profile picture I have is me standing next to a Kiva at one of the cliff dwelling sites- Cliff Palace or Spruce Tree House- I can't remember.

Ok, your killing disney for me. Actully the "New World" looks good. But there is a major contrast between the two movies. "The New World" acctually looks more realistic than phocahontas. But I still love disney movies.
