Psychology students

Welcome to Psychology. I really want to increase the involvement of Psych students on the blog. From time to time I will have videos and links to readings and websites on the blog for you to examine. You can earn participation points by commenting on the blog.

Here's how to comment:
1. Click on comment.
2. You will see a large box for you to write your comment.
3. Once you have written your comment, click on "nickname". Type your first name with your class. For example, Bob--Class 4A or Bob--Class 4B.
4. Type in the scrambled letters for word verification (this prevents me from getting spam).
5. Hit enter and your comment should appear.

If you have any trouble with this, please let me know ASAP. My e-mail is mcarlisle@ttsd.k12.or.us

I'm looking forward to a great semester. Good luck.

No excuses

I finally finished grading all of the Unit 6 exams. I must say that they left really impressed with a large majority of you. There were still a few hiccups but nothing major or surprising. My comment on several of your exams was, "Why weren't you doing this the entire semester?". I feel that some of you finally lived up to your potential. However, it is evident to me that you all ways had the ability to do well, but you didn't. If you earned a high grade on this exam please keep pushing yourself for the rest of the year. I really, really, really want to see everyone earn college credit next semester. Everyone in both classes is capable of a B or higher. Everyone!

Readings and reading quizzes won't go away. Doing poorly on those quizzes kept some of you from earning an "A" this past semester. Please don't let that happen next semester. I am about a hair's breath away from increasing the point total to 15 points per quiz. I really don't want to do that but I will if I see a large failure rate on any class's quizzes. This could happen after the next reading quiz or it may never happen.

I sincerely hope that some of you set new goals for next semester. Better time management, actually reading the required readings, taking better notes, and ASKING me for help when you need it. It's been really amazing to have been witness to your growth as students and people. I feel incredibly lucky to be teaching all of you this school year. All 60 of you are special students and I want to help you all reach your fullest potential as learners of history. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.

Essay formats--*REVISED*

Good morning, I hope that everyone is preparing for final unit exam of the fall semester. Please don't forget to prepare for IDs! Okay, here's what I am expecting on the essays:

Essay #1: 4 causes of the Civil War
Very straightforward essay. I am expecting either a 5 paragraph essay for this question or a 6 paragraph essay. If you wish to combine two of the causes of the Civil War into one paragraph that's fine, however, make sure you have a smooth transition between the two causes. **PLEASE DO NOT EXCEED A 6 PARAGRAPH ESSAY!** NO MINI-PARAGRAPHS FOR ANY OF THE ESSAY QUESTIONS.

Essay #2: Achievements and successes of Reconstruction **(REVISED)**
I want a 5 paragraph essay for this question! Here's one way to answser this question:iyour three body paragraphs, you can put one acheivement and one failure of Reconstruction. Do this for 3 body paragraphs and you will have 3 achievements and 3 failures of Reconstruction. Because there is so much you can write about this question, I want to help you narrow your focus a bit. HOWEVER, YOU MAY DO YOUR OWN FORMAT!! Just make sure you ANSWER THE QUESTION! Assess the achievments and failures of Reconstruction. If you feel that they're more failures than successes, then address that in your essay.

Essay #3: White encroachment upon the lives of the Plains Indians
This essay is very straightforward. Five paragraph essay is the max for this question. A total of three encroachments should be discussed in this essay. So, each of your three body paragraphs should discuss an encroachment and how the Plains Indians responded.

**IF YOU ARE COMING TO SEE ME IN PERSON FOR ESSAY HELP, BRING VERY THOROUGH OUTLINES. IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN OUTLINE FOR A QUESTION I WILL NOT HELP YOU WITH THAT QUESTION(S).
